What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Behavioral Health Supervisor position at Boston Children's Hospital?
The Security Behavioral Health Supervisor will work with management to lead hospital security staff, contract patient observer staff and assists with security clearances for new employees or visitors. Coordinates with clinical leadership to monitor contract patient observer performance. Assists with Welle de-escalation training of both contract and hospital personnel.

- Collaborate with BRT, Psych, and nursing to identify and classify needs and observe gender preference
- Security only
- High level (elopement risk, history of aggression)
- Mid-Level (elopement)
- Low level (observation)
- Work with Security to ensure all Security only watches are covered appropriately and all patient-specific instructions are known
- Ensure all contracted observers assigned are in compliance with training requirements
- Train patient care observers and Security department personnel as an instructor in Autism Spectrum training program, Welle Training, and other de-escalation program
- Check-in with COPP and print out assignments at the beginning of each shift
- Greet and distribute assignments to all contracted observers and ensures they are in proper uniform, fit for duty, and understand their assignment
- 2x per shift (8 hours) check in on all contracted observers
- Ensure that Observer log and instructions are understood, and all observers are signing in and out properly
- Work in conjunction with clinical staff, COPP, and BRT teams, to ensure proper coverage of behavioral health population, including providing and coordinating break coverage
- Under guidance from the manager, monitor performance of all contracted personnel to ensure they are meeting their training requirements initiating action, when necessary, to assure these requirements are met in accordance with the departmental, hospital, and contractual standards
- Under guidance from the manager, the Lead is responsible for monitoring the performance, service, and image standards of the security department and all contracted staff and providing updates to the manager
- Report any discrepancies to contracted management and Behavioral Health Manager
- Direct appropriate response to all behavioral health incidents, including enlisting other departments and outside assistance
- Assist in conducting thorough preliminary investigations of any service complaints regarding Security and patient care observer staff. Prepare reports to assist management in determining further actions
- Complete and maintain all necessary documentation of security and behavioral health observers
- Contribute to the ongoing effectiveness of hospital security and behavioral health observer programs by maintaining effective working relationships with managers and supervisors of all departments. Seek opportunities to expand scope of current program
To qualify you must have:
- High School Diploma/GED required
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering or a closely related field preferred
- Minimum 3 year of previous experience required
- Exceptional leadership and motivational skills to create a dynamic and challenging work environment for all officers
- Strong written and oral communication, exceptional listening skills
- Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented
- Must have or be eligible to obtain certifications from IAHSS for the following categories: Security Officer, Advanced Security Officer & Security Supervisor
