Video Producer, Boston.com
Boston.com is one of the most-read digital media outlets in the region. Each month, our stories reach millions of people, and we’re seeking to expand our video offering across our platforms.
The video producer will own and execute an ambitious daily video plan, emphasizing short-form, social, and live formats that are created originally and/or obtained from third parties. The ideal producer will rapidly publish video content across our site, app, social channels, and newsletters. “Mini docs” are not part of our mission; we aim to keep people in the region informed of what they really care about each day.
This role will primarily work from our downtown Boston office. Some scheduling flexibility is required due to the demands of the news cycle.
Responsibilities include:
• Identify and set video storytelling priorities on a daily and weekly basis, working in tandem with our editing team. Ensure that video is consistently included across top storylines and focuses.
• Primarily focus on execution: Regularly outreaching to obtain newsworthy footage and lending reporting and writing in the process; shooting and producing original concepts; launching live video and other succinct formats; and experimenting with new, creative ideas as warranted.
• Track and utilize data to drive decision-making.
• Build and manage a roster of freelance shooters.
• Serve as a teamwide resource, helping to implement standards, workflows, and best practices.
Requirements include:
• A track record of successful, audience-focused work.
• A progressive understanding of the ways that readers engage with content on social, search, and mobile platforms.
• Ability to shoot high-quality footage on an iPhone and a DSLR. Comfort with editing in apps like Instagram and software such as Adobe Premiere.
• Excellent writing skills.
