The College of Fine Arts seeks a Business and Operations Manager for the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. This position is responsible for coordinating and implementing the Boston University Tanglewood Institutes administrative and production operations. They have an eclectic portfolio of responsibilities and is a key member of the core, year-round team, working closely with the BUTI Executive Director, and interacting frequently with relevant departments at the College of Fine Arts and Boston University to ensure that BUTIs operations are in full compliance with Boston University. They also work intensively with external entities, including managing the contracting and services of outside vendors and venues, and securing faculty and staff housing. The Business and Operations Manager recruits, hires, trains, and supervises a seasonal and part-time staff team of approximately ten.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Business Operations: Manage BUTI budgeting and financial reporting. Oversee technology and communications equipment and systems. Process contracts and payments. Manage employee hiring, onboarding and payroll.
  • Program and Production Operations: Manage large vendor and venue contracts, and monitor services. Secure loaned and rental instruments and equipment and coordinate summer instrument inventories and repair needs. Oversee Stage Crew.
  • Housing: Secure and coordinate use of approximately 30-35 properties around the campus and in neighboring towns for faculty and staff housing.
  • Data Management and Student Accounts: Manage and develop program databases and oversee student accounts. Build program-wide data reports and dashboards as requested. Oversee internal alumni database.
  • Marketing and Communications: Coordinate high-volume e-communications and other digital media communications/projects. Serve as BUTI lead on brand awareness and compliance. Oversee web site functionality and content. Administer the recording sales/purchasing process. Create and oversee merchandise projects.
  • Personnel and Project Management: Hire and supervise seasonal staff. Provide administrative and project management support to the Executive Director.


Required Skills
  • A Bachelors degree and 3 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge and experience working in several core responsibility areas, and a self-driven willingness and record of success in building new skills and expertise.
  • Pro-active, analytical, methodical, and detail-oriented, with consistently precise and timely delivery of work.
  • The ability to work effectively with a diverse portfolio of job responsibilities and people.
  • Technologically knowledgeable and skilled. Experience with database management.
  • Customer-centric, with strong communication and relationship building skills, both in writing and verbally.
  • Experience learning/working in arts organizations, preferably music.
  • The ability to relocate to the Berkshires for the summer (June-August).
