Position: Operations Assistant
Location: 321 East 111th St. New York, NY 10029
Salary Range: $16.00 per hour
Summer Schedule: 20 hours per week; 6-week program
Employment Type: Part Time, Non-Exempt


About Us

The Boys’ Club of New York (BCNY), founded in 1876, is a youth development organization with the mission to empower boys and young men through outside of school programming at our clubhouses and our residential summer camp in Harriman State Park. BCNY’s Harriman Base Camp’s vision is to foster emotional, physical and ethical growth through thoughtful and diverse activities and programs for boys and young men age 10 through 17. BCNY campers will develop life skills and awareness of social responsibility through outdoor exploration and education. While appreciating their natural surroundings, they will become active stewards of the environment.


Job Summary

The Operations Assistant will perform a variety of duties to ensure the smooth and efficient operations of clubhouse facilities during program hours. This role will serve as a “jack of all trades” supporting program operations that may include youth group management, lesson implementation, supply distribution, program area supervision, member supervision, and visitor relations.


Responsibilities

  • Monitor and positively interact with members at all times to ensure they are safe and engaged
  • Record hourly ratio counts, ensure members scan into areas, and maintain all required evaluation information
  • Provide engaging and informative tours to visitors, potential members, parents, and community
  • Monitor program areas, including but not limited to entryways, locker rooms, coat check
  • Participate with group in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including games, arts and crafts, theatre, computer lab, swimming, and field trips
  • Ensure proper care of materials, organize game room, and report misused or damaged materials
  • Use behavior management strategies to defuse inappropriate behavior
  • Attend mandatory professional development trainings
  • Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements

BCNY is a COVID-19 proactive organization that follows applicable health and safety regulations to help protect our members and staff. To that end, we require that all BCNY employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. As of May 2, 2022, BCNY will require all staff to receive a booster shot that protects against COVID-19 once they become eligible. New employees will be asked to submit proof of full vaccination prior to their start date. BCNY treats proof of vaccination confidentially and consistent with applicable law, and will not use the information for any purpose other than to ensure compliance with BCNY’s mandatory vaccination policy.


Qualifications

  • Post-secondary training or college credits, 6 months to 1 year related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated organizational/leadership ability
  • Associate’s degree (A.A) preferred
  • Experience working and/or volunteering in a camp, after-school or educational setting preferred
  • First Aid and CPR certification desirable
