Title: Program Director at our East Clubhouse (Lawrence Weekly Center)
Reports to: Club Director
Salary: $35,000
Status: Full-time, exempt, benefits eligible
Boys & Girls Clubs of Hamilton (BGCH) delivers outcome-driven experiences that enrich kids’ lives by impacting Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles. We support and provide active learning, academic pathways, arts experiences, and creative learning environments. BGCH is currently looking for a Program Director to join our team at our East Club located at 985 East Avenue, Hamilton OH.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Ability to support the BGCH mission, vision and youth development philosophy in a manner that resonates with staff, Club members, volunteers and partners through leadership
- Provide and ensure the delivery of programs reflecting the youth development program model
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with Club members that are conducive to their growth and development
- Provide direction to staff to ensure that all Club goals are met
- Ensure that the Club operates to reflect the Youth Program Quality Intervention (YPQI) tool and that groups are rotating, programs are operating, and organization is maintained
- Manage the facility in a manner that will assure a safe and clean environment for membership and staff
- When appropriate, document disciplinary actions in accordance with the BGCGC Employee Handbook
- Maintain accurate statistical accountability of all Club operations, including payroll, program schedules and the food program; utilizing KidTrax software, track membership, daily attendance and Club Activities.
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings assigned by BGCH and other collaborating agencies.
Supervision
- Serve as direct supervisor of part-time staff and volunteers.
- Document member disciplinary incidents, contact parents/guardians, and follow the necessary plan of discipline. Act on behalf of the Club as the sole contact for parents and members when handling matters of discipline.
Leadership
- Act on behalf of the Club to interpret the Boys & Girls Clubs mission to the community; establish and maintain a positive public image by leading community networking initiatives
- Lead and support staff in a manner that will assure a positive and nurturing Club environment and fosters their growth and development.
- Ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers to ensure coordination of programming and integration of Graduate, Fit for Life, Ready to Serve.
- Provide ongoing feedback and regular appraisal to program staff and volunteers, ensuring adherence to Club policies.
- Participate and facilitate leadership discussions when necessary
Relationships & Collaboration
- Maintain daily contact with Club and school staff, including full-time, part-time, and volunteers, to discuss issues challenges and opportunities and to provide the best possible program delivery
- Continue contact with other youth-serving agencies, schools, and parents of members
- Works with Program Manager to establish and maintain average daily attendance goals and develop community partnerships to enhance programming and community awareness
- Work closely with BGCH administrative staff and volunteers
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
We maintain a 15:1 member to staff ratio. Activities are varied and require active engagement during educational and recreational programming, which may include extended periods of walking and standing. Activities will be varied due to working with youth and could require running and extended periods of standing and walking. Maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs. Average lift less than 25 lbs. Requires ability to use computer, various standard and specialized software and database systems, keyboard, calculator and typical office machines. Requires travel to other Clubs and community agencies for meetings and training events.
Skills/Knowledge Required:
- Associate’s degree
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with young people in a positive manner
- Experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning, and supervising programs based on the developmental needs of young people
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Energetic, forward-thinking, and creative individual with high ethical standards
- Ability to work with a team
- An understanding of the needs and interests of young people
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to interact with young people in a positive way, particularly as it relates to behavior issues
- Maintain a positive, friendly, and cooperative attitude at the worksite
- Valid driver’s license
- CPR, First Aid certification, and Child Abuse Prevention certification. Can be obtained within 30 days of hire.
