Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics and Teen Programming Director, the Teen Center Lead is responsible for providing leadership to middle and high school teens in the Teen Center during drop-in hours of 3:45–6:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Teen Center Lead is responsible for creating a welcoming and engaging environment for teens, fostering a safe place for all. The Teen Center Lead must be dedicated to serving our youth in following the Y’s core values (Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility) and in the areas of educational assistance, character development and social growth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provides day-to-day direction and supervision in the Teen Center during drop-in hours.

2. Promotes and maintains an environment that will provide a positive experience for all participants.

3. Brainstorms new activities/program ideas for teens. Assists Director in planning, promoting and facilitating activities for teens.

4. Assists students with schoolwork, as needed.

5. Monitors, guides and redirects teens’ behaviors; and provides appropriate discipline, as necessary.

6. Provides support, positive role modeling and guidance to teens.

7. Organizes and maintains all equipment and supplies in the Teen Center rooms.

8. Attends in-person trainings and online coursework on child abuse and prevention.

9. Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, and follows mandated reporter requirements.

10. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.

2. Two years of college coursework preferred. Working towards a degree in education or a related field is a plus.

3. Must have previous experience working in a group setting, supervising children.

4. Must have previous experience planning and implementing appropriate age programs for middle and high school students.

5. Previous experience supervising other staff a plus.

6. Must have capacity to make decisions and communicate effectively with participants and parents, as needed.

7. Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.

8. Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work Monday - Friday between 3:30–7 p.m.

9. Applicants must have, or obtain, First Aid/CPR certification within the first 60 days of employment.
