What are the responsibilities and job description for the MedSurg Ward Clerk (7a-7p) position at Bradley County Medical Center?
Position Summary: The Ward Clerk works under supervision to courteously and professionally assist, direct and escort patients and visitors. This position also provides assistance to physicians, and provides information regarding the status of patients. This is a SAFETY SENSITIVE position. Covid Vaccination or exemption is required.
Position Accountabilities:
1) Familiar with Physician calendar.
2) Demonstrates understanding of requests (i.e., x-ray, lab, respiratory therapy, physical therapy).
3) Understands policy and procedure for departmental call-backs:OR, Lab, RN, etc.
4) Demonstrates understanding of outpatient surgeries, observation bed policy and procedures.
5) Observation of emergency equipment such as: (1) radio; (2) Paging System; (3) Emergency Alert System; (4) Switchboard; and (5) Addressograph for making blue plates.
6) Familiar with permits, consents, refusals.
7) Understands central call system and how to channel patient request to appropriate level of personnel.
8) Receives, places and transfers telephone calls, using appropriate telephone etiquette.
9) Records and communicates or delivers messages accurately.
10) Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures (Code 88 and other emergency calls), disaster plans, fire drills.
11) Understands operation of Telemetry system.
12) Familiar with nursing care plan and maintains adequate number of standardized forms in file.
13) Maintains forms, materials, and supplies (stock room), checking and re-ordering as needed. Reorder days: Mon-Wed-Fri
14) Assists in maintaining safe, clean environment for patients/personnel.
15) Adapts to changes in workload.
16) Ensures each page of patient record has name and date before submitting to Medical Records Dept.
17) Rechecks medical records to ascertain that no forms are left in the record.
18) Sets priorities in work, alert to "stat" order; informing appropriate personnel.
19) Receives, greets and directs patients, visitors and hospital personnel in friendly, courteous manner.
20) Answers central patient call system and channels patient's request to appropriate personnel.
21) Contacts Dietary Services of diet changes and removal of withholds at RN's request.
22) Copy needed forms for transfer of patients.
23) Submit telemetry log to Director of Nursing on a monthly basis.
24) Assist RN with errands, paper work, etc.
25) Other job duties as requested.
Education/Licenses
High School graduation or equivalent.
Skills:
Possess good reading and writing skills.
Must have excellent communication skills.
Must have computer knowledge and good organizational skills.
Salary : $33,700 - $42,700
