Position Overview
Our part-time Cognitive Specialist works with students in an intense, one-on-one environment to improve learning, reading, and math skills. We utilize specific techniques to strengthen cognitive learning skills, attention, and memory in students from a wide range of backgrounds and age groups such as K-12 students, adults, and those with traumatic brain injuries and other cognitive impairments.
Ideal Candidate
While having a background in teaching and the educational system is a definite plus, what we are really looking for are those who are gifted in working with children. Experience with students who are struggling to learn is preferred.
Candidates typically possess a BA/BS degree in psychology, education, or a related field and have at least four years working with children. Because of the nature of our programs, an excellent command of the English language with strong phonetic and auditory processing skills is required in addition to strong reading and writing skills.
Our busy center draws individuals who are able to think on their feet and learn quickly. BrainFitU is perfect for the professional, self-directed personality who is able to manage time well, think creatively, and multi-task student learning activities with administrative responsibilities such as progress report writing and parent communication.
Responsibilities
- Execute cognitive training protocol with students 1 on 1.
- Maintain progress details and share feedback.
- Work within guidelines to customize and optimize each client's program with supervisory guidance.
Requirements
- Part Time: maximum 32 hrs/week available (potential growth to Full Time position)
- Strong cognitive skills and quick learner
- Strong auditory processing and reading skills
- Emotionally intelligent: the ability to connect and empathize with struggling learners
- Lifelong learner: a person who strives to continue gaining knowledge in their position to better serve our students

- Excellent communication skills
- Available: Monday through Friday evenings with flexible daytime hours, occasional Saturdays
