We are looking for a talented results-driven Buyer / Project Manager with excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills to identify, source, and purchase materials needed to support custom fabrications and assemblies to support global sales. The successful Project Manager/Buyer will (1) own responsibility for the build of custom assemblies including part analysis, sourcing, buying, and coordination with Manufacturing and Sales, (2) work with Engineering and Marketing and act as Supply Chain representative on all New Project Development efforts, and (3) serve as Buyer on assigned vendor accounts and product categories. The Project Manager role requires strong relationship and communication skills, attention to detail, logical thinking, analytical ability, and spreadsheet skills. The Buyer role requires experience procuring a variety of materials to meet manufacturing and branch operational needs. This includes material planning, negotiation for cost effective pricing, creating purchase orders (POs), and effective follow-up to confirm shipping and delivery dates are timely and accurate in the JDE business system. The Project Manager/Buyer will be responsible for achieving Supply Chain KPI’s. These include operating safely, maximizing inventory turns, achieving cost savings, and ensuring timely product delivery.
Responsibilities
- Purchase the highest quality merchandise, machinery, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, or services necessary at the lowest price and in correct amounts to meet manufacturing and branch operational needs.
- Negotiate for the best possible pricing, delivery, and payment terms.
- Evaluate ability of vendors to deliver quality products in a timely and cost-effective manner and make recommendations to change sources where appropriate.
- Review branch requisitions for goods and services. Solicit bids and issue purchase orders (POs).
- Research and evaluate suppliers based on history of price, quality, service, support, availability, reliability, and capacity.
- Analyze price proposals, financial reports, indices, and data to determine reasonable prices.
- Interview vendors and work with Supplier Quality Engineer to assess supplier processes.
- Monitor shipments to ensure goods arrive on time. In the event of past due deliveries, trace shipments and conduct root-cause analysis to determine corrective actions.
- Execute product returns when defective or unacceptable products are provided.
- Monitor changes affecting supply and demand, tracking market conditions, price trends, or future markets. Recommend stocking levels to the Plant Manager.
- Create and maintain contracts with suppliers and ensure they comply accordingly.
- Ensure blanket purchase orders and contracts are renewed and approved on a timely basis to prevent disruption of product supply.
- Respond promptly to internal inquiries.
- Produce reports as required on the status of any project in Supply Chain.
- Work with Engineering on DCR/ECO process to ensure changes on drawings are up to date.
- Work with the QA Manager to address quality issues on parts with the supplier.
- Forecast planning for items with long lead time.
- Coordinate shipments with the Logistic department to reduce freight cost and ensure delivery.
- Review opportunities for cost savings and implement. Purchase to avoid cost increases.
- Understand manufacturing methods and procedures.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in applicable field (Sourcing, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Finance) or equivalent experience and education.
- Three years of procurement experience
- Prefer purchasing/sourcing/ supply chain experience in the manufacturing industry.
- Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) experience
- Experience with JD Edwards business system.
- Experience with both standard and custom production practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required.
- Very strong communication, negotiation, and problem resolution skills.
- Strong project and time management skills.
- Work well under pressure and must be able to work independently and be a self-starter.
