Position Overview
The Controller at Breeze Aviation Group is a core member of the team for driving and maintaining low costs so we can keep fares low for our guests. Responsible for the accounting, tax, and internal controls, the Controller serves with other business leaders to drive for accuracy and cost ownership. She/he needs to have excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills, as well as a solid understanding of best practices and future opportunities to build a best-in-class accounting team. The Controller will need to have a solid understanding of the business model and a process-oriented mindset for establishing and creating relevant and applicable finance and accounting policies.
Essential Functions
- Owns all accounting operations and procedures
- Prepares and presents monthly financial statements to senior executive team
- Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal government tax requirements, including reporting and filings; identifies tax savings opportunities for the organization
- Establishes internal controls to protect the organization and its team members
- Works with department heads to build proper budgets and forecasts to drive for appropriate cash management
- Owns the ERP system, including training and implementation by organization as the company grows
- Facilitates an effective and efficient close process and ensures all accounting transactions are recorded appropriately and accurately
- Recruits and trains a best-in-class accounting group
- Coordinate and oversee all third-party tax preparation, filings, and audits
- Works closely with auditors
- Able to work with complex payroll rules and ensures payroll is executed timely and accurately
- Develops and builds working relationships with internal and external business partners
- Evaluates accounting pronouncements and assess financial and reporting impact
- Executes other duties and responsibilities as requested by the executive team
Minimum Qualifications
- 10 years of experience in accounting, corporate finance, or FP&A
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
- High performance orientation, ability to work well under pressure, prioritize projects, meet deadlines, and maintain flexibility
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
- Self-starter must have a positive attitude and strong desire for success
- Complete projects on time with minimal supervision, ability to work varied hours when necessary to meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree Accounting (MAcc), MBA, or equivalent post-graduate degree
- Experience in the aviation industry, travel industry, or with an airline
