Work schedule is Monday through Friday 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m. Performs skilled professional work planning, developing, implementing, and managing the Public Works Department Occupational Safety and Health Program.
Work involves providing technical safety assistance to all Public Works staff and performing accident investigations; environmental, safety, and health surveys;
department-specific safety training; and ensuring compliance with the most current federal, state, and local environmental and safety and health regulations, ordinances, codes, and standards.
REQUIREMENTS : Bachelor's degree in an Environmental Science, Physical Science, Natural Science, Safety Engineering, Safety Management, Construction Management, or a closely related field PLUS two (2) years of progressively responsible technical and / or professional experience in an environmental field, occupational safety, industrial safety, construction safety, or a closely related field.
Additional qualifying education and / or experience may be substituted on the basis of one (1) year of experience for one (1) year of education.
Public works, road construction, and / or building construction and maintenance-related safety experience is preferred. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment.
Must possess, or obtain within nine (9) months of employment, a current Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) / Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Intermediate certification and maintain said certification in an active status during the term of employment.
Must possess, or obtain within eighteen (18) months of employment, a Tier I Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector, issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and maintain said certification in an active status during the term of employment.
Must possess, or successfully complete within twelve (12) months of employment, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) ICS-100, ICS-200, IC-700, G-300, and G-400 certification training.
Must be physically capable at all times of properly wearing and utilizing all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Must be able to work irregular hours and respond to emergencies, including evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
