Position: Catering Bartender
Reports to: Bar Director / Event Lead
Position Type: Part-time
Pay Range: $18 - $35 per hour (including tips and gratuity)
Job Description:
We are looking for highly motivated catering bartenders who provide friendly and prompt service to create a unique and memorable experience for clients and guests during their special event. Our bartenders would be responsible for providing exceptional service for guests at a wide variety of events by being efficient, observant, knowledgeable in their craft, and personable from behind the bar. They work under the Bar Director and Event Lead in helping to achieve one goal – to exceed the client’s expectations after months of planning with them. Our ideal candidate has a wiliness to learn and grow within the company. They also enjoy interacting with people and working on group projects, because it does take a team to make an event possible. Must have a flexible schedule with weekend availability and the understanding that you will be scheduled as needed based on events that book. Previous bartending and bar management experience required.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Set up bars, distribute alcohol, cut/slice fruit, prep batched drinks, serve alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages, break down bar space and assist in load-out.
- Participate in creating a stylish and tasteful display of beverage stations and bars that will impress clients and guests.
- Follow all alcohol policies prior, during, and after event as required by the State and venue.
- Check identification for minors and monitors for prevention of intoxication.
- Appropriately interact with guests when delivering their drink order using proper rules of etiquette.
- Serve drinks to guests in a timely manner to alleviate lines from forming.
- Ensure timely delivery and presentation of trayed up cocktails for VIP guests.
- Provide tray passed drinks for servers to offer guests when necessary and requested by Bar Manager and/or Event Lead.
- Meet deadlines by following the event timeline for when the bar needs to be completely set-up and open for service with alcohol chilled, drink trays made available for servers to pass and wine and champagne bottles uncorked for table service.
- Maintain knowledge of drink recipes, beer, wine, spirits, and mixers and able to make recommendations to guests based on the options available.
- Execute consistent presentation of drinks by following the recipes directed by Bar Manager, Event Lead, or client.
- Replenish items, tracks inventory (spirits, mixers, juices, garnishes, etc.) and removes bar area as necessary.
- Carry and distribute supplies and equipment to and from bar location from the catering truck/van.
- Follow proper procedure in tear down, including appropriate placement of all storage items and leftover alcohol.
- Return alcohol provided by client to appropriate vehicle at the end of the event.
- Properly save, pack, organize and load remaining items at the end of an event.
- Sweep and mop up ground of any fallen bar items or spills in bar area after event.
- Ensure cleanliness of all supplies and equipment used to perform job duties before, during and after event.
- Performs other related tasks based on the Bar Manager/Event Manager’s needs
Skills:
- Attention to detail and a creative eye for bar setup.
- Strong communication with coworkers, security, client(s), and guests.
- Excellent organization and problem-solving skills in a fast-pace environment.
- Ability to multi-task and follow verbal and written instructions on the timeline of the event, recipes of specialty cocktails, preparation of passed drink trays with chilled and uncorked bottles presented for servers to grab and offer guests, knowledge and readiness of when to open/close the bar - all while following the venue's bar policies directed by the lead, venue owner, and/or security.
- Adaptability to work outside in the elements for longer shifts.
Job Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must have previous bartending and bar management experience.
- Job duties require long hours of standing, bending, stooping, lifting during shifts.
- Capable of lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs of boxes, glass racks, crates, tubs, ice bags, etc. assisted and unassisted.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- A team player with a can-do attitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must obtain and maintain a California Food Handlers Card.
- Must obtain and maintain a Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Certificate.
- Must be available to work weekends (Friday - Sunday) and evening shifts (Saturday availability is strongly encouraged).
- Must have reliable transportation to scheduled events that are located in Ventura County and Los Angeles County.
- Flexibility to perform different but related tasks at any given time assigned and requested by Bar Manager and/or Event Lead.
Experience:
- Bartending: 2 year minimum (Required)
- Bar Managing or equivalent: 1 year minimum (Required)
License:
- TIPS Certified (Required)
- California Food Handler (Required)
