What are the responsibilities and job description for the Respite Counselor position at Brien Center for Mental Health?
**Weekdays, 1st Shift!**
This position is responsible for facilitating assessments, participating in treatment team meetings, facilitating groups or providing 1:1 site based or mobile outreach support in the Respite Services. This position may require work at sites throughout Berkshire County.
Essential Job Functions
Direct Care
- Work collaboratively with the respite program director, program manager, nurse, certified peer specialist and respite direct care staff to assist the Person Served with achieve their IAP goals
- Facilitate initial assessments, assist with IAP formulation, facilitate psycho-educational groups
- Document group contacts
- Make treatment recommendations and referrals as appropriate.
- Assists with discharge planning and goals
Administrative
- Participate in all relevant respite staff and treatment meetings, scheduled supervision and interagency committees
- Maintain safety and quality of site and report any incidents or accidents to supervisor
- Make independent decisions on and off site based on program requirements
- Ensure compliance with DMH and all agency policies
- Oversee accuracy of records and maintain record keeping standards
Other Responsibilities
- Communicate a knowledge of the process of mental illness, addiction and co-occurring disorders with hopefulness and respect
- Participate in trainings revolving around motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, or other best practices annually
- Flexibly respond to program scheduling needs and represent the agency in a professional manner in all community contacts and interagency committees
Qualifications
- A Masters degree in one of the following disciplines or a closely related field is required: psychology, social work, counseling, or related field.
- Must be eligible for independent licensure
- Valid driver’s license and use of a personally insured vehicle
