What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp cook position at Bristol Bay Native?
Bristol Bay Native Corporation is currently seeking a dedicated Camp Cook to join our team! As the Camp Cook, you will be responsible for planning and preparing all meals and snacks at our remote camp location.
Collaborating closely with the Camp Director, you'll create meal plans, order necessary supplies, and ensure all dietary needs are met.
Maintaining a clean and organized cooking area is essential, as is adhering to safety protocols to protect against wildlife encounters.
Your expertise in food service, combined with your passion for the outdoors, will make you an invaluable member of our team.
We are thrilled to announce that Culture Camp is scheduled to take place July 25th 31st within the beautiful Bristol Bay region! While we eagerly anticipate this enriching experience, please note that the exact location is yet to be determined.
Dates :
March July (tentatively part-time) : Coordinate with the Camp Director to meal plan and organize grocery shopping.
July 25th 31st : Stationed at camp to prep meals, handle food, maintain, and clean kitchen.
August 1st 11th (tentative to change) : Camp debrief.
Essential Duties & Job Functions :
- Plan and cook all camp meals and snacks in remote camp location.
- Work with Camp Director on establishing meal plans and ordering to ensure all necessary supplies are secured.
- Maintain a clean cook area and ensure all safety codes are met.
Required Qualifications :
- Current Alaska Food Workers card or ability to obtain before camp starts.
- Experience in a food service setting, preferably as a cook in a school, camp or similar setting.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience in remote camp, or outdoor and wilderness activities
- Prior experience working with youth in camp, school, or related programming.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- An understanding of Dena’ina, Sugpiak / Alutiiq, or Yup’ik foods.
- Familiarity with the Bristol Bay region, people, geography, and history.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions and remain composed under stressful circumstances.
- Ability to work well individually and collaboratively.
Work Environment :
- Travel to a remote Alaskan campsite. Camping in tents in a variety of weather conditions.
- A majority of cooking to be done in a remote kitchen and cook tent using a Coleman stove or similar.
- Long and irregular working hours.
- Working and living in close quarters with others in a remote location.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to travel to rural locations within Alaska via small aircraft and boats. The work environment will require hiking, hauling, lifting, and carrying.
Physical ability to respond and assist in emergency situations. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds.
Hiring preference will be given to BBNC shareholders, their spouses and descendants, and Alaska Natives in accordance with Public Law 93-638.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a satisfactory background screening.
