What are the responsibilities and job description for the Computational Associate position at Broad Institute?

The Broad Institute is seeking an energetic and motivated Computational Associate to join the PRISM and CMap team, where you will help us leverage multiple high-throughput, high-dimensional readouts to accelerate biomedical discovery.

Our team’s core technology is the PRISM assay, which measures cell fitness for hundreds of cancer cell lines simultaneously, and its scale enables routine profiling of thousands of perturbations. Additionally, our team is developing other other assays and associated data processing approaches to complement and augment PRISM.

In this role, you will help advance the PRISM/CMap team’s mission of becoming the world leader for large-scale phenotypic screening and novel cancer target elucidation. You will work as part of a multifaceted team where you will perform exploratory data analysis of PRISM and associated data, make contributions to data processing pipelines, develop and present analysis methods and results to broad scientific audiences.

The Broad Institute provides a vibrant research environment with close links to top academic institutions and research hospitals across the Boston area, providing unique opportunities for your contributions to have direct clinical impacts, and to be used and recognized worldwide.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

  • Design and execute data analysis strategies to support research projects involving multimodal cancer datasets, such as RNA-seq and drug sensitivity screens and more.

  • Leverage public genomic datasets such as CCLE and DepMap to identify predictive biomarkers of cell killing.

  • Extend and improve data processing pipelines and associated reports and visualizations.

  • Conceive, implement and test statistical models; work with wet-lab researchers to translate these models into testable experiments; analyze data from experiments.

  • Write manuscripts describing research results; develop analytical and software tools for distribution to the global cancer research community.

  • Present analytical methods and results to a broad scientific team and internal and external collaborators

REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline (such as computer science, bioinformatics, physics), or in biology with a strong quantitative background.

  • Fast learner, analytical thinker, creative, "hands-on", team-player.

  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language. Experience with a scientific programming environment, such as R or Matlab, is preferred.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Knowledge of cancer biology and genomics is a plus but is NOT required. Inclination to acquire such knowledge is.
