The Pharmacy Technician enters prescription data and client demographic data into
the pharmacy computer system. The pharmacy Technician prepares, counts, labels,
packages and dispenses pharmaceuticals under the supervision of a pharmacist. DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:· Accepting written or electronic prescription orders from prescribing practitioners or
from the prescribing practitioner’s agent. · Accepting original oral prescription orders from the prescribing practitioner or their
agent, if the conversation is recorded and listened to and verified by the
pharmacist prior to dispensing.·
Requesting
authorization for refill from the prescribing practitioner. · Accepting oral authorization for a refill from the prescribing practitioner or their
agent provided there are no changes to the original prescription order. · Accepting a request from nursing staff to refill a prescription. · Obtaining and entering patient or prescription data into the patient information system.· Preparing a prescription label. · Retrieving medication from stock, counting or measuring medication and placing medication in its final container.· Reconstituting prefabricated dosage forms. · Compounding pharmaceuticals pursuant to written policies and procedures on file in the pharmacy at the time of compounding. · Affix a prescription label to its final container. · Placing ancillary information on the prescription label. · Prepackaging and labeling drugs for dispensing by a pharmacist.· Preparing unit dose cards for final review by a pharmacist · Print out physician orders and medication administration records. · Fully understanding the Medicine-On-Time prescription filling system and prepare and fill orders using the Medicine-On-Time system. · Appropriate communication skills, especially with regards to conversing with doctors, nurses and clients or their families. · Retrieving and transporting stock medication to and from pharmacist approved areas. · Other technical functions that do not require the professional judgment of a
pharmacist. · Order and maintain inventory levels. · Move deliveries to corporate office for overnight delivery to out-of-state
facilities.· Housekeeping and filing. · Must develop a thorough knowledge of pharmacy computer
system with the capacity to add patients to the system including all their
demographic and medical information, print labels, bill insurance and change
and add new orders to patient profiles. SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITIES: None QUALIFICATIONS: ·
Possess a High School diploma/GED. ·
Certified Pharmacy Technician training preferred. ·
Meet the background check requirements for each state’s regulations. ·
Possess personal vehicle insurance that meets the minimum expectations/coverage if the
employee will be driving their personal vehicle for on-the-job purposes as detailed in the Broadstep Transportation Policy. ·
Successfully pass an initial medical examination and pass a drug screening, which provides
evidence that they are free from communicable diseases, including active tuberculosis or conditions which prohibit them from reasonably performing the assigned duties, except as provided for by the ADA. Staff will be reexamined on a regular basis. #WI1
