What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern position at BronxWorks?
BronxWorks helps individuals and families improve their economic and social well-being. From toddlers to seniors, we feed, shelter, teach, and support our neighbors to build a stronger community. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the supervision of the development director and with input from other Development Department or executive office staff, use the Candid research platform (specifically the Foundation Center Directory and GuideStar components), various websites, and other sources to research foundations, funding federations, corporations, and funding consortia.
- Under the supervision of the development director and with input from other Development Department or executive office staff, use various sources to research the charitable giving programs or efforts of local businesses, BronxWorks vendors, and corporations.
- Under the supervision of the development director and with input from other Development Department or BronxWorks program service staff, review and analyze data from government agencies, policy institutions, or other sources (i.e., Giving USA and the Chronicle of Philanthropy) that relates to institutional giving.
- Under the supervision of the development director and with input from other Development Department, executive office, or other BronxWorks staff, prepare summaries related to select foundations, funding federations, corporations, or funding consortia based on publicly available information.
- Under the supervision of the development director and with input from the Development Department, executive office, or other BronxWorks staff, compile data from government or other sources to support the preparation of proposals, reports, or inquiry letters to public or private institutional funders
- Assist the Development Department, executive office, or other BronxWorks units with the preparation of proposals, reports, inquiry letters, or other materials to current or prospective funding sources.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree with a major in the social sciences, urban affairs, public policy, social work, quantitative analysis, or a related field
- Solid writing skills, be able to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, in particular Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Have a working knowledge of the local community.
- Knowledge of or fluency in a language other than English preferably.
- Additional duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
- Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
- Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
- Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work.
