What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN - Pre-Op & PACU position at Brookdale Associates?
We are seeking a dedicated Pre-Op & PACU Nurse to carefully monitor the condition of patients, who are being prepared for surgery and waking up from post-operative anesthesia. You will be monitoring levels of consciousness, measuring vital signs, and treating post-operative side effects of anesthesia medication such as pain or nausea.
- Position: Full Time - Registered Nurse
- Specialty: Perioperative Care - Surgery (Orthopedics)
- Schedule: Flexibility required, the schedule is a mix of 10 hour and 12 hour shifts. A variety of shifts are available, including shifts starting as early as 6AM and shifts ending as late as 11PM. Occasional weekends and on call required.
- Hourly Rate: $40.00 - $70.00 (depending on experience and education)

Duties:
- Provide direct patient care in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
- Monitor patients' vital signs and assess their condition post-surgery
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians
- Assist with family planning and education regarding post-operative care
- Collect and process specimens for laboratory testing
- Provide specialized care for neonates requiring ventilator support
- Provide care for infants and toddlers, including feeding, diaper changes, and monitoring developmental milestones
- Utilize electronic medical record systems such as eClinicalWorks and Athenahealth for documentation and patient management
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in a PACU setting
- Experience working with children, including neonates, infants, and toddlers
- Knowledge of dementia care and specialized interventions for patients with cognitive impairments
- Familiarity with coding and billing practices related to PACU services
