Duties

GENERAL SCOPE OF DUTIES - Program Supervisor/Float


Main Responsibility:  Assist the Director in the day to day running of the center. They will provide curriculum and training support to the teaching staff. The program supervisor will act as a float teacher two days a week, and as needed if teachers are out. 


Standards

  • Maintain the highest standards of professionalism in all communication.
  • Ensure compliance with all state [Washington Administrative Code (WAC)] regulations.
  • Help maintain all records for the BELC in accordance with Temple Beth El policies.

Program Management - People

  • Supervise all BELC staff in the following areas: hiring, professional development, scheduling.
  • Oversee and promote regular communications with parents.
  • Promote positive, safe and healthy relationships between teachers and students, teachers and parents, and teachers and community.

Program Management 

  • Assist in the development and maintenance the annual calendar for the center.
  • Implement an electronic system and procedure for monitoring parent and caregiver access to the center.
  • Develop an exemplary early childhood program to meet educational goals through physical space and curriculum design.
  • Develop and implement the center's vision and mission through curriculum development and setting educational goals. 
  • Build a cohesive learning environment among our students, offering a variety of program options, including half-day, part-week preschool classes, as well as full-time day care.
  • Support pre-school curriculum and activities designed to support our mission of creating a vibrant learning center rooted in Jewish tradition, emphasizing celebrations.
  • Establish measurable goals and objectives for program growth.
  • Provide regular planning time for classroom leads



Supervision

  • Support communication regularly with the BELC Oversight Committee regarding progress, challenges and policy issues.
  • Ask for help as needed from the Director, TBE Executive Director, Rabbi, Cantor, Religious Education Director and BELC Oversight Committee members.


Essential Functions: Classroom Float teacher

  • Assist classroom teams in covering breaks
  • Fill in where needed when a teacher is absent
  • Support for the planning and execution of appropriate early childhood experiences that align with the curriculum plan of BELC
  • Help children learn in a manner consistent with a play-based curriculum, developmentally appropriate practices, and incorporate an emergent curriculum whenever possible
  • Demonstrates and models an effective use of language. Is thoughtful in use of open ended questions and scaffolding comments. Helps children to think creatively, to solve problems independently, and to respect themselves and other.
  • Create and maintain an enriched learning environment that is orderly in its appearance, safe and provides learning opportunities for all children
  • Promote children's healthy eating, resting, and hygiene habits; support children's self-regulation in these areas
  • Demonstrates effective classroom management techniques using the principles of natural and logical consequences. Handles discipline issues effectively and in a fair manner. Supervise all activities to insure the safety of each child at all times, in the center, on the playground, and in the community.
  • Manage time efficiently and effectively 
  • Keep up to date on developments in the field of early childhood education
  • Maintain a clean classroom. IE: wiping down tables in a timely manner, wiping down the changing table after each diaper change, picking up toys as needed, as well as assisting in the children picking up after themselves.

Requirements

Skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrates understanding of child development, ages birth-3
  • Demonstrates appropriate child behavior management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively 
  • Ability to be flexible with daily schedule
  • Willingness to learn more about Jewish values, traditions, and history
  • Must be a team player with a collaborative approach to teaching and decision making
  • Demonstrated positive Customer service skills

Education and Experience:


  • An ECE State Certificate (47 credits) or AA in ECE or higher (or within 3-6 mths, if experienced)
  • At least four years' experience as a teacher in an early childhood program.
  • Practical knowledge of positive discipline principles.
  • Has successfully implemented emergent curriculum and/or the project approach while in a classroom leadership role.
  • Shows ability to take leadership in mentoring other teachers, communication, and job duties.
  • Complies with all requirements for child care providers from DCYF, including, but not limited to, CPR/1st aid training, a clear portable background check, and continuing education hours.
  • The usual methods of performing the job's daily functions require: lifting up to 50 lbs., carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, sitting and rising from the floor, kneeling and/or crouching, and significant finger dexterity, and the ability to spend approximately 50% of the day walking or standing.
