Position Purpose:
Perform functions to plan, organize and manage the system-wide safety, training, and loss control initiatives of the Cooperative.
Essential Functions:
Directs BEMC's Safety Program
Demonstrates, communicates, and interprets the Cooperative's mission, vision and values; establishes department direction and gains commitment from all employees to sustain and improve a culture of safety.
Responsible for developing and implementing strategic department goals, policies and metrics to enhance safety and loss control.

Provides expertise, evaluation and training on all areas of electrical safety and regulations affecting the proper handling of materials regarded as hazardous or potentially hazardous. Maintain compliance with federal, state, local regulations, technical training, industry standards, CDL, first aid and CPR training.
Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement of workplace practices to promote health and safety. Maintains ongoing compliance with:
Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations
State, federal, and local law
Environmental regulations
OSHA regulations
National construction codes including NESC and NEC
Other regulations as required by law
Ensures announced and /or unannounced site visits are conducted at each district with regularity. Responsible for evaluation of equipment, facilities and tools; makes recommendations to replace or purchase new equipment when appropriate.
Adequately represents the Cooperative in all accidents involving employees or equipment. Maintains records and works with legal counsel and insurance carriers as appropriate.
Leads the Cooperative's NRECA Safety Achievement program.
Lead BEMC's Safety Committee
Defines enterprise level training standards for:
BEMC's Line Technician's training and progression programs
Loss prevention
Safety and compliance
Provide administrative support for claims process and create management reports for liability and/or loss control events like:
General damage and liability claims
Energy diversion.
Environmental Protection and Spill Response programs
NC Workers' Compensation program
OSHA Violations
Prepare documentation for any significant event that poses material risk to the Cooperative
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree plus two years of related experience. Related job experience in lieu of education will be considered.
First Class Line Technician experience preferred
Training and experience in supervision of safety and/or loss control and program planning preferred.
Training and experience in electric power transmission and distribution line construction and maintenance desirable.
