BSC is currently seeking a GHG and Climate Action Specialist with at least 5 years’ experience to support our growing Climate Resilience Services. The candidate who fills this position will join a high performing team that provides clients with multi-disciplinary planning, engineering and science-based solutions for climate change adaptation and mitigation. The GHG and Climate Action Specialist will both lead and support analysis, planning, and solution development that helps clients understand their carbon footprint and take action toward lower carbon alternatives. The position can be based in any of BSC’s Massachusetts, NH, or CT offices.

The ideal candidate for this client-facing position will have technical experience in GHG analysis and some of the following areas: climate action planning, sustainability strategy development, and energy efficiency programs. The candidate will be technically proficient and able to effectively communicate complex topics to clients and project stakeholders. The GHG and Climate Action Specialist will sit within BSC’s Climate Resilience Services group but will work with staff across the company to support clients across public, private, transportation, energy, and institutional sectors on projects.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct GHG analyses/inventories; develop low/no-carbon alternatives for client projects and plans
- Incorporate sustainability and resilience elements into climate action plans, master plans, and other community, campus, or organizational planning initiatives
- Develop/assist in the development of client resilience/mitigation programs to set and achieve climate goals
- Support project permitting including analysis and strategy development that complies with MEPA Protocols relating to Climate Change Adaptation and Resiliency and Environmental Justice
- Develop and conduct community outreach and education around client sustainability and decarbonization activities, analysis, and recommendations
- Prepare technical memorandums, final reports, and similar written materials
- Advise on sustainability and decarbonization topics for projects led by BSC’s ecological and engineering teams
- Assist in the development of statements of qualifications and proposals for project pursuits
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills
- Experience conducting building, transportation, or community-level GHG analysis using industry-standard methodologies/protocols and IRS-approved calculators and software
- Familiarity with issues pertaining to energy and related emissions, building design and construction, waste, water, land, and transportation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience with visual communication (maps, infographics, use of InDesign or Illustrator) a plus
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field (urban and regional planning, environmental science, public policy, environmental engineering, sustainable design, architecture, landscape architecture) and 3 years work experience
- Relevant professional certification/training preferred but not required including AICP, LEED, PE/EIT, GHG Protocol
