Most candidates join our team through the Budget Fellow career track, which does not require a civil service exam. Starting salaries are based on education and experience:

Budget Fellow I: Salary of $49,835. Requires a Bachelor’s degree.

Budget Fellow II: Salary of $54,570. Requires a Master’s degree; OR, a Bachelor’s degree and one year of relevant experience.

Budget Fellow III: Salary of $59,038. Requires a Doctoral degree; OR, a Master’s degree and one year of relevant experience; OR, a Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience; OR, a Bachelor’s degree and three years of professional experience including one year of relevant experience.

Qualifications/Skills:

The successful candidates must have strong analytical and writing skills, demonstrate an attention to detail, possess good interpersonal skills, and work as part of a team and independently.

Duties Description
The General Government and Workforce Unit is recruiting two candidates to be part of the General Government Team, budgeting for the Department of Civil Service, the Workers' Compensation Board, the Office of Employee Relations, the Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government, the Office of the State Inspector General, the State Insurance Fund and multiple other agencies.

Responsibilities of the Budget and Policy Analyst on the General Government and Workforce Team would include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyzing and developing policy and fiscal recommendations;
  • Projecting and monitoring agency spending and hiring;
  • Drafting legislation and bill memorandums;
  • Providing periodic reports to management;
  • Developing strong working relationships with agency staff and other DOB examiners; and
  • Assisting in the development of a variety of other budget-related products.
