College Access & Persistence Academy Coordinator (CAPC) (Full-time). 40 hours Exempt

The CAP Coordinator (CAPC) is focused on providing intensive services to a small cohort of youth, equipping them with skills fostering academic, personal, and professional success and helping students with post-secondary education accessibility and financial aid. The (CAPC) serves as a key support person to each student entering the BUILD College Access and Persistence Academy as a high school junior with the goal of coaching them to timely graduation from high school and enrollment into the post-secondary institution of their choice. Additionally, this person will connect these students to necessary resources and support to successfully graduate with a degree. The (CAPC) report directly to the Middle and Secondary School Education Services Manager.


Duties/Responsibilities includes but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with internal and external programs to gain and maintain knowledge in the field and ensure program incorporates best practices for serving low-income, first-generation college students.
  • Manage participant behavior by establishing guidelines, expectations, mutual respect, and mutual accountability.
  • Identify/recruit participants for the core group; generate and maintain intakes and assessments for each group member
  • Provide mentoring and related support services.
  • Coordinate and attend collegiate and career opportunities such as college tours, fairs/conferences, internships, job shadowing and workshops/information sessions for youth and parents.
  • Advise student on educational and career endeavors regarding course selection, goal setting, academic improvement and exposure to STEM and other career opportunities
  • Empower youth to self-advocate by teaching them effective communication skills and how to research/access resources
  • Create an environment fostering holistic youth development through exposure of cultural and enrichment programs.
  • Manage the College Access and Persistence Academy including ensuring that applications are complete and organized for filing, track attendance/participation, communicate the program eligibility requirements with all staff for recruitment
  • Track program expenditures and submit all necessary documentation for credit and check request purchases.
  • Maintain a caseload for a core group of youth participants.
  • Collect baseline and year-end data on academic, interpersonal, and social behaviors.
  • Conduct student surveys and assessments for academic and programmatic evaluation purposes
  • Maintain confidentiality of information according to HIPPA and FERPA privacy laws.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Human Services, Education, or related field experience
  • 2-3 years of professional experience in teaching/coaching, counseling, social work or related field.
  • 1-2 years of teaching, advising, or administrative experience at the high school or college level.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population.
  • Availability to travel for overnight college tours and professional development conferences.
  • Access to a reliable automobile with insurance and a valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to communicate via text/phone with students at night and on weekends.
  • Must pass extensive background check screening
