Summary

Mission Technologies, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is inviting applications for the position of Engineer 1 to join our Integrated Product Support (IPS) team in Newport News, VA. This is an exciting opportunity to become a part of a dynamic team of Engineers, Designers, Planners, and PMA's who provide support to Facility operations at Newport News Shipbuilding. The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated individual who can work collaboratively in a team environment to meet the needs of Facilities Engineering operations at NNS.

What You Will Do

• Performs engineering functions in one or more of the following specialties: electronics, electrical and/or mechanical.
• Reviews and estimates design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other related costs.
• Inspects or directs the inspection of construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules.
• Responsibilities will include directing work assignments of engineering service providers and contractors to design and construct shipyard facilities in a safe manner for production use.
• Candidate will develop experience with electrical infrastructure, and low voltage power distribution.
• Candidate will develop experience with controls, ladder logic, programming and integration of robotic automation.
• Candidate will develop experience in electrical field engineering, technical support, reviewing vendor technical product data, system design and configuration management.
• Candidate will develop experience in development of one-line diagrams; transformer sizing; Motor Control Center (MCC) layout; conduit and cable sizing; and knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), arc flash analysis, coordination studies, and energy analysis.

What You Must Have

• 0 years experience with Bachelors of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
• Candidate must have strong communication, organizational and computer skills
• Candidate must have the ability to work independently and be a part of cross-functional teams in accomplishment of complex tasks
• Candidate must have the ability to address technical, quality and business aspects of a project
• Candidate must have the ability to complete assigned tasks on schedule and within budget
• Candidate must be willing to do field engineering work as you gain experience in the unique environment at Newport News Shipbuilding
• Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen
• Candidate must have the ability to obtain a security clearance
• Candidate must have experience in electrical field engineering, technical support, reviewing vendor technical product data, system design and configuration management.

Physical Requirements

Office, industrial or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift.
