What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reading Specialist position at Bullis Charter School?

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
The Reading Specialist under the direct supervision of the Chief Academic Officer, plans, develops and implements a school-wide reading intervention program and provides direct support for students and teachers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct instruction in reading for small groups of identified students both in and outside the classroom
- Collaborate with and coach teachers on planning instruction based on classroom assessment data
- Observe classrooms and providing actionable feedback to teachers on practice and pedagogy
- Model effective teaching practices for teachers and provide implementation support
- Plan and lead professional development for grade level teams and whole staff
- Analyze school literacy data and propose programmatic adjustments/focus areas
- Conduct an annual review of classroom resources and identify supplemental resources based on identified need
- Participate in parent/school informational meetings when appropriate
- Maintain school records as necessary
- Continue professional growth and establish partnerships with organizations and other schools, as appropriate
- Perform related duties as requested
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of three years as a high-performing teacher of record in a primary classroom
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT
Indoor/outdoor setting, onsite. Travel between multiple campus locations will be required.
