What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Purchasing- East Region position at Bunzl?
The Regional Purchasing Director will oversee the strategic operation of procurement replenishment which will be oriented by category, market, region, or customer. This leader of 4-5 managers (~50 employees in total) is a critical, action-oriented leader to achieve short-term and long-term results.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a leader and Subject Matter Expert in the Procurement function and a member of Bunzl’s ONE TEAM.
- Serve as a leader and strategic partner inside the region and associated markets, representing key communications and deliverables as identified by the Region Vice President.
- Treat all customer issues (internal and external) with Bunzl’s core values of responsive, reliable, transparent and with humility.
- Be a model leader for communicating with impact, ensuring that all needs across sales, demand planning, replenishment purchasing, and operations are met on time and to expectation.
- Drive brand and product rollouts, conversions, and eliminations in close conjunction with Product Management and Demand Planning.
- Supervise 4-5 managers including recruiting, selection, performance management and detailed development plans for each procurement professional inside their organization (~50 total). The managers and buyers are traditionally a mix of onsite and remote resources.
- Deliver the budgeted metrics and objectives of the department, ensuring that all strategic decisions are in sync with the division’s 3-year business plan. Metrics may include, but are not limited to:
- Buyer productivity – volume, value, turns, and overstock
- Conformance to category management guidelines or demand plans that ensure preferred vendor relationships and products are core to every buying decision
- Inventory balance granular to ordering characteristics and aged profile
- Maintain vender relationships including service level and On Time and In Full (OTIF)
- Identification and capture of opportunities for one-time PBIT improvements
- Be a thought leader for supply chain processes across functional groups and the company to improve performance.
- As necessary, directly negotiate with vendors on any required item to reach a decision.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required, master’s degree preferred. Significant (>20 years) industry experience may be substituted for a degree if within a manufacturing or distribution industry.
- Previous supervisory experience leading leaders strongly preferred, with particular focus on the ability to develop a high performing team at multiple levels. People leadership experience is required.
- Deep knowledge of various supply chain principles including forecasting, demand planning, replenishment purchasing, freight, and warehousing. Industry certificates and certifications further validate a candidate’s existing knowledge basin. (e.g. ASCM or ISM certifying bodies)
- Strong analytical skills using Microsoft Excel and reporting tools such as Microsoft Power BI to drive decisions and communicate key performance trends.
- Must possess executive level strategic planning, execution, time management, and communication skills with ability to craft targeted messages
- Willingness to travel up to 50%.
