The Section Manager is responsible for the managerial direction and leadership of the section and resources within a global practice or regional office. This includes executing projects, supporting and executing business strategy, developing high performance teams, and promoting the Burns & McDonnell culture, values and mission. The Section Manager will lead the section in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and overall outstanding service.
The primary focus of the position will be to help grow and develop the emerging construction businesses in Transportation Electrification, Pipelines, Transmission and Distribution, Global Facilities, Water, Environmental, and other underdeveloped business markets. The position will focus on how to better support these business lines with EPC construction, construction management, and program management as well as execute core projects within the group.

- Specific areas of responsibility include:
- Marketing:
- Use industry knowledge and market inputs to help define offerings for the the emerging markets in the Burns and McDonnell Construction group
- Help develop and maintain effective proposal material that support emerging market pursuits
- Collaborate on growth planning and forecasting with the Construction Department Manager and various global practices across the companies
- Provide positive and visible participation in relevant industry associations
- Provide leadership to the team; direct and coordinate work assignments and review performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.
- Business Development:
- Support the identification and pursuit of emerging market construction opportunities across the United States.
- Participate and help drive sales for EPC and construction opportunities
- Work with Business Development teams to provide input on opportunities in the business lines.
- Maintain and leverage industry network to identify and pre-position for upcoming opportunities
- Support and drive construction and EPC pursuits with various Locations and engineering groups including “go/no-go” decisions, win strategies, proposal staffing, development of pricing, contract terms and conditions, and risk-review
- Execution and Management:
- Adhere to company’s safety programs, trainings, and policies, as well as promote and manage the Safety & Health performance of project team members and subcontractors.
- Manage projects and be responsible for the oversight of construction activities and the successful execution of multiple projects simultaneously.
- Provide direction and participate in project planning, scheduling, estimating, cost development, and establishing critical project objectives.
- Work towards becoming a certified EPC PM and participate and lead internal and external project risk reviews and consult with Legal Department.
- Negotiate prime contracts, CM contracts, subcontracts, and change orders.
- Responsible for ensuring staff levels, staff loading, and staff assignments meet project requirements while maintaining financial goals.
- Achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
- Prepare and present work load and monthly financial reports to the Department Manager and applicable project managers.
- Recruitment, development, training and retention of staff.
- Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for construction manager, assistant construction managers, and construction coordinators.
- Provide leadership and guidance to staff.
- Responsible for interpreting policies, purposes and goals of the organization to staff.
- Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence.
- Responsible for diversity initiatives.
- Assist in the develop of standardization of documents and processes
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction or related degree from accredited program.
- Minimum 5 years related professional experience in design and/or project management.
- Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable.
- Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
- Must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.
Must be expert in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft)
