Burns & McDonnell is searching for a well-rounded and driven Staff Electrical Engineer to join our Energy (ENR) Global Practice. This unique opportunity requires an individual who enjoys engineering, business development, and project management roles. A “seller-doer” type who has high-quality technical and interpersonal skills.
Burns & McDonnell plays a diverse role in the solar and energy storage industries. Projects consist of, but are not limited to front-end project development, permitting, interconnection applications, detailed design, Owner’s/Independent Engineer, construction/field support, commissioning support, consultation services, and full turnkey EPC.
For a Staff Solar Engineer, following are some specific duties & responsibilities:
Perform marketing, project development, and proposal development for a range of multi-discipline projects as specified above.
Regularly meeting and corresponding with clients, vendors or other outside personnel.
Developing scope of work, conceptual design, and execution plans.
Preparing engineering cost, work-hour estimates and schedules.
Performing Project Management duties.
Provide leadership, guidance, instruction, and mentorship to less experienced team members.
Preparing or directing the creation of construction documents and specifications for the installation of new, or modifications of existing power generating facility electrical systems.
Developing or directing the creation of equipment specifications, procuring, and factory acceptance testing electrical equipment.
Evaluate and compare electrical equipment and provide recommendations to client.
Coordinating project design assignments and design teams locally and with other office locations.
Provide guidance and field engineering support during construction and commissioning.
Perform quality control reviews of drawing packages, reports, specifications, calculations and simulations to conform with company, industry, and safety standards.
Coordinate departmental and divisional initiatives locally and with other office locations.
This position requires approximately 20% travel to Client offices and field project sites.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for 1-year experience.
3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
A minimum of 3 years of related experience in renewable power generating facilities, battery energy storage systems, and/or large industrial facilities including the following design types, is strongly preferred: medium voltage, low voltage, lighting, grounding, electrical equipment control, protective relaying and associated system designs and construction administration.
Software experience utilizing SKM, AmpCalc, PVSyst, Power Tools, ETAP, AutoCAD, or similar software is preferred.
Field construction and commissioning experience is preferred.
Excellent written & verbal communications, as well as strong analytical & problem-solving skills, are required.
Previous consulting engineering experience preferred.
Successful completion (i.e.passing) FE or EIT preferred.
