Industrial Service Technician

Job Overview
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the general supervision of the Regulatory Compliance Superintendent, the Industrial Services Technician assists in implementation of BCWS’ approved Sewer Use Rule. Major duties include Pretreatment Program administration, investigation, locating and isolating sources of industrial and commercial wastewater discharges, preparation and cleaning of sampling equipment, sampling, Industrial/Commercial Inspections, Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG) program administration, Backflow Program administration and Inspections, flow monitoring, record keeping, and other duties as required.

Pretreatment Program Administration, 15% of the time

Includes but is not limited to: Preparation of monthly industrial user surcharges, assistance with local limits development, assistance with monthly and annual pretreatment regulatory and internal reports, Industrial user file maintenance and record keeping, and other related duties.

FOG Program, 15% of the time

Includes but not limited to: Sampling, FOG studies, Issuance of Notice of Violations (NOV’s), Issuance of Non-Compliance Fees, Reminder letters, phone calls, data entry (LINKO database), LIMS database entry, Grease interceptor/trap inspections, Permitted and Non-Permitted inspections, Sewer main inspections, Site visits, record keeping, filing.

Sampling and Monitoring, 15% of the time

Coordinates daily sampling of industrial and commercial facilities that discharge to the BCWS collection system; Trunk line sampling and monitoring to identify possible toxic, malodorous, colored or other unusual discharges into the BCWS collection system; LIMS and LINKO database entry, cleans and maintains samplers and safety equipment; maintains battery recharge stations and recommends purchase of various supplies and equipment; Landfill gas monitoring and landfill cover inspections, Stormwater sampling as required.

Backflow Program, 15% of the time

Tracks the Backflow Program compliance, investigates and answers inquiries related to backflow requirements, and performs inspections on backflow devices. Follows up on backflow devices with delinquent tests.

Investigation/Inspections, 20% of the time

Industrial Services Technician I monitors and inspects oil and grease interceptors/grease traps at restaurants and Oil/Water separators at commercial and industrial facilities; investigates slug loads at BCWS’ Water Reclamation Facilities, performs industrial/commercial inspections, and backflow inspections.

Record keeping, 15% of the time

Data base entry (LIMS and LINKO); maintains daily log of sampling events and site investigations; Maintains FOG program records, maintain equipment calibration records and field-testing records.

Other Duties as Required, 5% of the time

Locates and paints control manholes and system checkpoint manholes; backflow program assistance as needed and assists with other section programs as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a minimum of two years’ experience in the water and/or sewer industry or other related education, training, or experience which provides the skills necessary to perform the required job duties. Must have a valid Ohio driver's license and a high school education or the equivalent thereof. Must be capable of working alone and/or with others in assigned duties with minimal supervision. Must have computer experience (Microsoft Word, Excel, Spreadsheets, etc. and database experience). Must have proven communication skills (Verbal and Written), the possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is desired but not required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.35 - $29.13 per hour
