This is an Extra Help Position. Extra Help means this may be a part-time or full-time, non-permanent position. The number of hours worked per week may vary and depend on the needs of the department. Under limited supervision is responsible for the management and oversight of public and private forestlands for economic, recreational, and conservation purposes. The position works as a professional liaison with landowners, organizations, local and federal agencies and other stakeholders to provide advice and assistance in regards to wildland management through research, assessment, and risk analysis.

- Provides supervision and lead direction to workers assigned to the tree removal program, including but not limited to contracted workers and County employees.
- May assist with the evaluation and award of a Request for Proposal for ISA Board Certified Arborists assigned to the tree removal program.
- Provide quality assurance and quality control on private inspections performed by the County's contracted arborists.
- May act as arbiter between arborists with differing opinions regarding assessment of a hazard tree(s).
- May act to resolve scheduling and/or personnel issues related to contractors in the field.
- May conduct compliance inspections in the field to ensure that homeowners electing to remove their hazard trees have done so in compliance with the County ordinance.
- Ensure that contractors provide appropriate documentation of inspections in order to close the code case on the property and comply with FEMA requirements to secure reimbursement funding.
- Prepares and writes reports and responds to correspondence; may represent Butte County by attending various meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Possession of a valid license as a Registered Professional Forester issued by the California State Board of Forestry and Fire Protection.
- A State of California Driver's license is required.
- Must pass a pre-employment medical screening.
- Work is performed primarily in an outdoor environment.
- May be required to lift and carry items more than 25 pounds.
- May be exposed to dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, hazardous chemicals, and uneven ground.
- May be exposed to adverse weather conditions.
