What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic Operator position at Butterball?
Position Summary :
The mechanic operator is responsible for the day to day setup/tear down and simple maintenance of machines on ST01, ST02, ST04 & ST05
“This position is deemed Safety Sensitive for purposes of Butterball’s Drug/Alcohol Screening & Testing Policy. Details will be provided to individuals who receive a conditional job offer, or upon request.”
Essential Duties, Functions and responsibilities:
Process product using tools and equipment provided
Follows all work safety policies and guidelines
Observes equipment operation, notifying appropriate personnel of any malfunctions and/or safety issues/concerns
Adheres to all USDA and GMP (Good Manufacturing Processes) product standards and guidelines
Maintains a clean and organized work area
Use material handling equipment when needed
Be LOTO trained and maintain LOTO equipment
Performs other duties as assigned
Able to direct team members on line on when to rotate and stop production for breaks and end of day
Must be a self-starter and have the ability to lead and motivate a team
Available to work on unscheduled work days to complete PM’s on machines
Must be able to load and unload rolls of film at approx. 50 lbs each with help of film lift
Accountable to maintain punctual and regular attendance for scheduled work hours
Will be required to assist in clean up at break times and end of shift including dumping trash and operating compactor
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work in a fast paced environment
Ability to trouble shoot minor problems of machine
Ability to communicate effectively and follow verbal and written instructions
Must maintain accurate speed in order to meet the pieces per person
Must be willing and able to perform physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States
Must pass a background check, drug screen
Must be able to read and write
Must be able to use the computer associated with machine
Ability to multitask and visualize product issues such as air in product and air voids
Ability to meet time standards for each line (ex. 4 pieces of product per min)
Be able to read and comprehend daily schedules
Be able to do changeovers in a timely manner
Ability to complete paperwork hourly and turn in daily
Physical Requirements :
Standing (8 hours a day or more),
Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling (up to and including 50lbs or more)
Reaching overhead (up to and including 25lbs)
Climbing and adjusting film on machine
Gripping, grasping and twisting using hands and wrists
Completing PM’s on machines on non-production days
Working Conditions/Department Description:
Work in damp and cold environment
Work with loud and noisy machinery
Work in dusty environment when using spice
Work with raw meat
Work in congested areas
