Position Summary:
The Shavings Driver uses a diesel powered tractor trailer combination to transport and deliver wood shavings to turkey farms.
Essential Duties, Functions and responsibilities:
Conducts pre and post trip inspections to determine the trucks condition and ensure that everything is in proper running order.
Delivers shavings to turkey farms daily in a safe and efficient manner.
Backs tractor trailer into turkey farm and loading areas.
Assists other workers in the department by helping load and unload trucks.
Resolves problems on turkey farms when supervision is not available by using common sense to handle situations. Adjust to errors and complaints.
Follows instructions and company polices.
Must maintain a good driving record.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have a valid North Carolina Class A CDL and Department of Transportation Certified Medical Certificate.
Ability to read and understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to make decisions on backing, turning, entering and exiting farms.
Ability to operate trucks on narrow, dimly-lighted roads.
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to sit.
Grip, grasp or twist using hands and wrists
Occasionally lift, carry, push, and/or pull 50lbs or more.
Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Reach with hands and arms.
Climbs and/or balances oneself.
Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
Working Conditions/Department Description:
Regularly driving, and working inside a vehicle.
Exposure to outdoor/seasonal conditions including
Working in very hot temperatures
Working in cool/cold temperatures
Working in a dry and/or dusty environment
Working in a loud/noisy environment
Exposure to vibrations.
