REPORTS TO: Project Manager
POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Salary, Exempt

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Superintendent supervises the field construction of a project, including its organization, planning, and scheduling, in order to complete the work on time, within budget, and to the quality specified. In the performance of this function, the Superintendent is responsible to protect and promote the interest of C.T. Wilson Construction in all matters and to take actions as required to satisfy responsibilities which include, but are not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities.

In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed below, the Superintendent will perform any other duties as directed in harmony with the C.T. Wilson Construction Core Values.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To have complete knowledge of all contract and subcontract documents, drawings, and specifications and to develop the on-site plans and procedures for implementation, including quality control efforts and job safety planning.
  • To have a complete understanding of the requirements in the project documents with regard to quality control procedures such as testing, shop drawings, material approvals, samples, mock-ups, execution of the work, etc.
  • To have complete knowledge of the job estimate for general condition items within the superintendent s control and to see that the work is performed within the boundaries of the estimate.
  • To plan and review the construction project with the Project Manager on a weekly basis.
  • To assist in the preparation of progress schedules, to keep them properly updated, and to see that everything feasible is done for the project to meet the required dates. These schedules must be coordinated with the Project Manager, Assist Project Manager s and Project Coordinator s for assurance of feasibility. The Superintendent is responsible for the preparation of a two-week look ahead schedule in sufficient detail necessary to maintain construction progress and to provide the basis of the weekly subcontractor foremen meeting.
  • To advise the Project Manager on project requirements for temporary construction services.
  • To examine all drawings and specifications for suspected design deficiencies, impractical details, and code violations and to refer any findings to the Project Manager who will determine what action is required.
  • To direct and train other C.T. Wilson Construction field staff and administer the field office.
  • To oversee the work of the Field Engineer.
  • To assure the continued development of assigned staff by use of performance evaluations, varying assignments, and promoting a positive project morale.
  • To work with the Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager s and Project Coordinator s in scheduling and expediting the delivery of materials and equipment furnished by C.T. Wilson Construction and subcontractors and to assume the primary responsibility for their timely on-site delivery.
  • To coordinate, direct, and monitor the activities of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • To obtain, or see that the subcontractors obtain, all necessary permits for temporary and permanent constructions purposes. (The Assistant Project Manager or Project Coordinator will assist when requested by the Superintendent.)
  • To make sure all subcontractor insurance requirements are satisfied prior to their starting work and during the term of the project.
  • To coordinate, and direct when necessary, the activities of inspection agencies and to effect remedial actions indicated by the reports of these agencies.
  • To establish and maintain good safety and security practices for the entire project in accordance with applicable safety codes and regulations.
  • To keep the Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager s and Project Coordinator s informed of changes made in the field so that such changes may be covered by general contract change orders and subcontract change orders. To properly authorize, validate, and process all field instructions, extra work orders, time and material tickets, and similar documents involving changes.
  • To maintain good relations and communications with all involved in the project, including the public

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Wear proper clothes - Boots, gloves, hardhat, long pants, sleeved shirts (shorts, tank tops and tennis shoes not permitted per OSHA regulations).
  • Come to work on a regular basis. Reliable transportation is important
  • Call your jobsite if you cannot get to work for any reason.
  • Pass drug screen.
  • Have excellent driving record.
  • Work cooperatively with other employees.
  • Move objects between 20-50 pounds.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
  • Understand and carry out oral instructions in the English language.
  • Manipulate tools in areas of limited space.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 5 years of commercial construction experience in a supervisory role.
  • Adequate knowledge of layout, construction methods, scheduling, contract language, working knowledge of safety requirements, and good communication skills.
  • Ability to work with other associates on site such as laborers, carpenters, field engineers, and providing training as necessary to assist in the associate s advancement.
  • Ability to use the computer and/or iPad on a daily basis on the job site.

TRAVEL:

  • Ability to travel to any location within 60-mile radius of home office.

REQUIRED TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • OSHA 30-hour class - If not already certified, must obtain within first 6 months of employment
  • First Aid/CPR Certified - If not already certified, must obtain within first 90 days of employment

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is often performed outside under any type of weather conditions. Exposure to varying degrees/amounts of heat, cold, dust, dampness, ice, precipitation and mud.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Individual must be capable of lifting to meet the physical demands of our industry. Activity includes significant walking, standing, pushing, or pulling for significant lengths of time.
