Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Team member must be able to work in a team oriented and safety conscious environment.
- “Safe Production / Safety First” expectations include, but are not limited to, risk assessment, observation process, and compliance with all company / site safety guidelines and procedures.
- Develop and help enforce a plan to eliminate hazards, conducting training sessions for management, supervisors, and workers on health and safety practices and regulations, as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all C&W company policies and Health and Safety requirements including understanding of Pre-work requirements, the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), setting up and maintaining a safe work environment. Perform safety observations. Recognize and reinforce positive behaviors. Counsel employees that do not meet expectations to ensure that they understand the importance of working safely.
- Identify hazardous conditions and practices. Identify potential hazards in existing equipment, machinery, facilities, or processes. Develop methods to predict hazards from experience, historical data, and other information sources.
- Monitor personal protective equipment use in workplaces to ensure compliance with regulations and expectations.
- Communicate with workers and observe their work, as well as inspect the elements of their work environment, such as lighting, tools, and equipment.
- If an accident occurs, investigate unsafe working conditions/ actions, study possible causes, and make recommendations for corrective actions.
- Analyze data and prepare reports for Health and Safety Metrics to include: Site Scorecard, Observations & Behaviors, uses the data to provide Leading & Lagging Indicators Reports.
- Develop occupational health and safety systems; including policies, procedures, and manuals. Document safety inspections, citing dangerous areas/procedures and recommending corrective procedures. Makes recommendations on appropriate PPE and safety equipment inventory at sites.
- Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers health and safety
- Ensure that team completes all required training.
- Enter data, generate reports, manage, and interpret data from Learning Management System, Incident Management System, Audit/Inspection tracking system, and other such systems.
- Ensure conformance with established safety metrics, leading and lagging indicators.
- Demonstrate proficiency in creating/working with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Undertake relevant ad-hoc projects, initiatives, or tasks as directed by the Regional Safety Director
REQUIREMENTS:
- BA/BS in Safety, Engineering or related sciences preferred.
- Occupational Health & Safety Certification (ASP, CSP or CIH) preferred.
- 8 years of occupational HSE work experience within the facility services and/or building maintenance industry, with at least 3 years in a management role overseeing multiple sites.
- Working knowledge of risk recognition, assessment and control techniques.
- Demonstrable success in managing safety systems across multiple accounts/sites.
- Subject Matter Expertise in relevant local, state and federal HSE regulations.
- Competency with incident investigation process and Corrective Action Plan implementation.
- Effective communication skills including verbal and report writing.
- Ability to manage projects and conflicting priorities.
- Ability to be sensitive to operational issues and understanding customer needs.
- Planning, organizing and time management skills to effectively establish the priority and scheduling of work tasks and projects to ensure work priorities are completed on time and within budget.
- Conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills to enable the identification of issues and making sound decisions to determine appropriate courses of action for achieving long-range organizational goals.
- Must be able to interact professionally with internal and external clients at all levels from the boiler room to the board room.
- Ability to adjust schedule as needed to work 'off-hour' shifts.
- OSHA 30-hour General Industry or Construction course completion.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in English. Additional fluency in Spanish or Portuguese is preferred but not required.
- Travel up to 75%, mainly by car, M-F, but could include exceptions of overnight stays
- Ability to climb ladders to access elevated areas
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
- Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving history
