General Description of the Job Class:
Perform a variety of routine and complex tasks associated with the installation, service and
calibration of therapeutic, diagnostic or life support biomedical instrumentation.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level:
Perform a variety of routine and complex tasks associated with the installation, service and
calibration of therapeutic, diagnostic or life support biomedical instrumentation.
Perform electrical safety tests on biomedical instrumentation using specialized test
equipment.
Document the introduction of new therapeutic and diagnostic equipment, corrective and
preventive maintenance actions and special requests as required.
Install, maintain, service, modify, troubleshoot and calibrate a variety of diagnostic,
therapeutic and life support devices by interpreting engineering and vendor information,
schematic diagrams and graphic illustrations.
Diagnose and correct system and equipment malfunctions by making alterations, repairs or
replacements to ensure that biomedical instrumentation and internal circuitry meet specified
requirements; make necessary calculations for computing circuit elements necessary to
adjust circuitry to specified requirements as instructed.
Improve or make special test setups to conduct functional checks of medical electronic test
equipment.
Meets departmental performance indicator standards on a consistent basis.

Demonstrates initiative and concern for planning, time utilization, and cost containment.
Maintains good personal relationships with fellow workers, nursing and medical staff, and
the general public.

Provides mentoring and precepting to Biomedical Equipment Technicians
Performs all duties related to this position as they are needed.
Required Qualifications at this Level:
Education:
Work requires a background in electronics, normally acquired through a two-year Associate Degree program in Electronics or Biomedical Equipment Technology, or equivalent work experience, to become familiar with biomedical devices common to a health care facility.
Equipment Experience:
Two years related experience to acquire competency in applying biomedical and electronics principle.
Degrees, Licensure, And/or Certification:
Associates Degree in Electronics or Biomedical Equipment Technology or equivalent work experience.
Ability to become certified as a Biomedical Equipment Technician by the International Certification Commission is required.
A valid Driver’s license with a good driving record.
Knowledge, Skills,
Knowledge of electronic circuitry
Knowledge of electronics troubleshooting
Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation
Ability to take call if needed.
Ability to read color codes on wiring and electronic components.
Ability to function in a sterile environment if necessary.
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if needed.
Ability to comprehend and follow both written and oral instructions.
Ability to maintain neat and accurate records.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, clinical and medical staff, and the general public.
A working knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology.
A working knowledge of e-mail, database management, spreadsheet, and word processor applications.
