CACI is looking for a Optical Investigator to join our NSIS (National Security & Innovative Solutions) division, supporting our photonics team-- we are expanding! Our laser communications technology is helping NASA provide high-definition video from the International Space Station, and to explore asteroids 250 million miles away. Our other optical technology can also help scientists discover biohazards; support intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions; and protect soldiers from explosive devices. Candidates must live within a 60 miles radius of Florham Park, NJ or be willing to relocate. Employees are expected to work in-person. However, we can make accommodations for some remote work on an as-needed basis.
What You'll Get to Do:
- Lead the development of new and innovative optical designs using doped-fiber, planar waveguide and other technologies.
- Develop innovative optical solutions related to optical communications, optical remote sensing, photonic integrated circuits, lasers, optical amplifiers, and optical transmitters and receivers
- Develop and employ software for the modeling and simulation of rare earth doped material systems, optical propagation, and optical nonlinearities.
- Serve as primary US Government customer support, understand customer technical problems, formulate creative solutions, and contribute to selling of proposed solutions and lead technical execution of resulting programs.
- Collaborate with customers to reach mutually-accepted set of specifications for complex projects, and flow those requirements down to subsystems in a Systems Engineering effort.
- Coordinate, plan and schedule project requirement definitions, project commitments, coordinate staff member assignments, and develop and manage to program budgets.
- Lead project team meetings and facilitate tracking/completion of action items.
- Recruit, lead and grow high performance technical teams to innovate and execute both short-term and long-term project goals.
- Provide briefings for customers on project status, results of work, concepts and new business ideas.
- Prepare progress reports on all projects of responsibility as per contract requirements.
- Interface with both internal and external customers to ensure the project is meeting schedule and cost constraints.
- Identify new business opportunities with new and existing customers, match customer needs with department capabilities, work with customers to create procurement vehicles, lead/contribute to proposal teams to generate responsive and competitive proposals and follow through with customer until contract award.
- Participate in strategic planning sessions and assist in executing the implementation of strategic plan by working with managers and engineers.
- Develop marketing and product material for showcasing tools and applications including brochures, presentations, multimedia material and equipment demonstrations.
- Recommend and initiate process improvements and overall development practices.
- Develop trade studies to compare different potential designs and select the optimum approach.
- May lead a team of professionals
You'll Bring These Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in optics, physics, or Electrical Engineering and 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of skills, education, and experience
- Prior knowledge related to fiber lasers and amplifiers (e.g. ultra-fast, high-average-power, and/or rare-earth-doped optical sources and amplifiers, including work on the effect of optical nonlinearities)
- Experience working in an inter-disciplinary team environment
- Experience in the field of Optical Research
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent presentation and writing skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft software applications and other software applications as required
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
- PhD in optics, physics, or a related field.
