Responsibilities:
- Develop optimized machining processes and CNC programs for mills and lathes using Mastercam for launching new parts or improving the process of existing parts (including fourth axis machining and live tooling).
- Machining processes will include CNC machine, work holding fixture, tooling and cutting program. The process will be developed completely through CAD and simulation to provide an extremely quick and trouble-free launch.
- Ensure alignment with AE ownership plans, policies, priorities and procedures.
- Develop a robust CNC/manufacturing process that meets all internal and external safety, quality, timing and cost goals.
- Measure parts, tooling and fixtures as necessary to support new part launch, trouble shooting and documenting parts are manufactured to specification.
- Provide timely communication on all program updates, concerns and resolution plans to engineering, production, program management, quality and leadership.
- Create a process/program that can repeatedly manufacture parts that meet customer requirements for testing specifications, tolerancing and statistical capability.
- Work with the internal team to develop machining cycle times and tool usage to develop costs that support new part quotes or continuous improvements.
- If necessary, work with our CNC suppliers to improve their processes.
- Work with controlled CAD data and specifications.
- Implement latest machine technologies and practices. Offer ideas to drive continuous improvement.
Required:
- 10 years’ experience as a Manufacturing Engineer and a proficient CNC Programmer for a mid to high volume repetitive manufacturing environment. Including experience operating and setting up new parts, choosing the right tooling as well as work holding to maximize productivity.
- High level understanding of G & M codes, machine processes and controllers. Ability to program online and offline.
- Ability to read and interpret product drawings with a strong understanding of GD&T as well as experience working with 3D models.
- The ability to program with a team mindset including text/comments so any programmer at any time can easily interpret the approach to quickly troubleshoot.
- Great attention to detail, exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, communicate and act on information.
- Strong communication skills and confidence escalating issues.
- A teamwork mentality in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
- A strong sense of urgency.
