The Software Engineering program (being launched in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems) at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor. Priority will be given to applicants who specialize in automated software engineering, software security, and embedded software development. However, outstanding candidates from other areas within the field of software engineering may also be considered. Candidates with industry experience are encouraged to apply. CSUSM embraces the teacher-scholar model, which values teaching undergraduate and involving them in research. The campus offers hands-on and collaborative learning experiences, innovative technology, and academic programs relevant to the rapidly changing global environment. The campus has a STEM Center providing students support for courses in STEM majors and a Center for Research and Engagement in STEM Education (CRESE) dedicated to enriching, enhancing, and supporting STEM education.

The campus is located on a beautiful 304-acre hillside 15 miles east of the Pacific Ocean and in the San Diego North County region, an area known for its temperate climate and growing technology industries.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related fields by the start of the employment.
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Strong commitment to and demonstrated potential for teaching and scholarship excellence.
  • Ability to develop and sustain an independent research program, with evidence of publications in scholarly journals and/or conferences.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with colleagues and with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community with a substantial population of first-generation college students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in active learning practices such as project-based learning or group learning, and student support for diverse population, especially those from groups underrepresented in STEM.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research and/or service.
  • Priority will be given to applicants who specialize in automated software engineering research and practices, software security, and embedded software development.
  • In addition, preference will be given to applicants whose expertise will expand the education and research opportunities the department currently offers for students and be complementary to areas of specialization of existing faculty in the department.

Duties

  • Teach, supervise, and advise students at both undergraduate and master’s levels, effectively adopting strategies proven successful for students traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields.
  • Design and establish instructional labs that expand the existing curriculum, working with industry and community partners to prepare students for the workforce,
  • Develop an active research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participate in activities serving the department, college, university, and community.
