Job Title - Controller
Department - Finance
Reports To - Chief Financial Officer
FLSA Status - Exempt
Job Summary
Oversees the Bank's accounting functions and prepares financial, management and regulatory reports. Develops plans, and recommends practices and procedures for the proper financial control for the Bank. Acts as accounting liaison to other areas of the bank. Supervises accounting staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains the Bank’s accounting systems. Creates monthly financial reporting. Supervises monthly accruals including payroll, investments, fixed assets and other accounting functions.
- Prepares and supervises regulatory reports including Call Report, FR-2900, Summary of Deposits, Local Public Agency and others.
- Supervises Accounts Payable function - processing invoices, cutting checks, distributing checks, maintaining vendor files, collecting Form W-9 data.
- Supervises and distributes annual 1099-Misc forms.
- Coordinates stock activity and issuance of stock options and restricted stock.
- Creates accounting and reporting for Bank's holding company.
- Responsible for calculating commission payments.
- Oversees vendor management process.
- Participates in examination and audit responses related to accounting and finance. Helps create materials for annual shareholders meetings.
- Supervises payroll accounting entries.
- Assists Chief Financial Officer with specialized projects as necessary.
BSA/AML Compliance Responsibilities
This position includes direct or indirect interaction with customers and other employees and therefore includes responsibilities relating to BSA/AML. The employee will have opportunity to examine and view information and documents produced by other employees of the Bank relating to BSA and therefore has the obligation to report suspicious activity to the BSA Officer as appropriate. The employee is responsible for understanding and following the Bank’s BSA/AML policies including elevating suspicious activity to the BSA Officer. Additionally, the employee is required to understand and follow the Bank’s compliance program.
Requirements
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance preferred or equivalent experience or training. Experience in a banking accounting role a plus.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting and finance principles.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, managers, clients, customers and vendors.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts in order to accurately process invoices and general ledger transactions.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Advanced MS Office skills required.
