POSITION GOALS
To provide information, support and academic advisement to prospective and current ESL and international students at Camden County College, enabling them to achieve their vocational and educational goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To provide information, support and academic advisement to prospective and current ESL and international students at Camden County College, enabling them to achieve their vocational and educational goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Advises prospective and current F-1 International students on all matters that may impact a student’s status, such as choosing a course, major, course load, withdraw, termination, transfer etc.
- Serves as the Designated School Official (DSO), maintaining the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and all related certification requirements.
- Monitors international student’s compliance with DHS, SEVP and USCIS rules and regulations.
- Organizes SEVIS data processing under the guidelines provided the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and maintains and oversees data.
- Prepares, develops, monitors, updates and tracks SEVIS files and SEVIS alert lists on a regular basis.
- Provides accurate immigration information to international students including evaluating student academic history, developing academic and career goals, and outlining appropriate classes and resources needed to achieve these goals. Conducts information degree audits, evaluates and interprets placement test scores.
- Serves as a student advocate in matters related to international students’ academic probation and able to develop an improvement plan, monitors progress and identifies specific areas for tutoring support and resources.
- Maintains Datatel records and appropriate coding for F-1 students.
- Familiar with current DHS, SEVP, USCIS and Immigration rules and regulation.
- Knowledge of academic policies and procedures relating to admissions, testing and placement test.
- Considerable knowledge of varities of community resources for appropriate referrals.
- Skill in evaluating transcripts and graduation application packets.
- Skill in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
- Skill in classroom, workshop, seminar and public presentations.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to effectively work with students of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to manage emotional and tense situations and offer appropriate solutions.
- Able to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned / cross-training.
- Supports college-wide registration events.
- Attends various College events during school year, representing the International Student Services Office (ISSO) and ESL Program.
- Comply with all safety, fire and smoking regulations.
- Complete all mandatory compliance and safety training as scheduled by Human Resources.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Bilingual preferred.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.
- Working experience in intercultural communication.
- Working experience in post-secondary settings advising students.
- Experience in researching and interpreting academic policies and complex rules and regulations.
- Experience in reviewing or evaluating transcripts and placement test scores.
Standard working hours are AY: Monday through Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. SMR: Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
