SURVEY PARTY CHIEF
Salary: Pay Grade 115- $ 39,562.00 minimum salary
Purpose of Classification
Performs supervisory work in survey support of assigned transportation programs or function. Duties include surveying fields and assisting with operations of survey equipment. Positions in this class perform routine technical and identify needed corrective actions to resolve discrepancies; answer questions; and maintain documents and records.
Essential Functions
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Supervises survey crew members while conducting field surveys; provides field support to the Right of Way, Public Works and Engineering Divisions.
Conducts cross-sectional, trace contour, controlling point, and grid method topographical surveys; checks property corners to establish the right of way of the road.
Surveys land by researching available recorded information, locating street intersections in the field, and setting a monument at each survey point; checks instruments calibration.
Operates field computer to retain data; downloads data to database.
Researches property deeds, plats, easements, etc., prior to surveying in order to ascertain property lines.
Drafts and designs drawings of the existing conditions of platted land; verifies subdivision plat closures,; reads blueprints, deeds, plats, maps and easements.
Maintains field notes and drawings for all surveys conducted.
Assists in Field surveying using the auto level, total station and data recorder; downloads information into the computer.
Provides assistance and information to employees, managers, vendors, citizens, local businesses, and/or and other interested parties regarding assigned surveying functions; serves as liaison between supervisors, vendors, and other departments in regards to department policies and activities. Explains policies and procedures.
Prepares various department documents requiring knowledge of department policies, programs, and procedures and which may involve researching, compiling, analyzing, retrieving and/or summarizing data.

Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED; supplemented by of three (3) years of experience performing field survey and/or mapping support work including one (1) years of experience surveying Party Chief work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert medium physical effort in medium work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of medium weight (20-50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion at a keyboard or work station.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
This is a Civil Service covered position. Testing requirements will follow section 2.32 of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations Handbook. Probationary period will follow section 2.35 of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations Handbook.
