Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide Tier 1 through Tier 3 escalation of network support on day-to-day basis.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Data Center and Enterprise network related issues.
- Recommend changes in network configuration and hardware to improve delivery of service, performance, capacity, and scalability.
- Interface frequently with cross-discipline support teams (Systems, Database, and Storage).
- Respond and resolve complex network issues in a timely and systematic fashion.
- Identify and resolve networking hardware, software, or architectural issues.
- Analyze system errors or anomalies, as well as specific network performance issues and/or error messages, to ensure maximum uptime and service quality.
- Identify and assess trends that may ultimately result in degradation of service.
- Design, implement, monitor, and maintain the overall network infrastructure of the university.
- Formulate and implement monitoring, policies, procedures, and standards relating to network management.
- Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, Information Security including but not limited to HIPAA, FERPA, and other federal and state mandates.
- Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
- A Bachelor’s degree and professional experience with network operations and wireless support experience is preferred; 3 years’ experience in network administration with relevant certifications is acceptable.
- Experience in higher education or non-profit sector is desired.
- A solid understanding of routing and switching including VLANs, Ethernet, WANs, LANs, Spanning Tree, vPC, Port Channels, and industry best practices.
- Ability to articulate an in-depth understanding of the 7 layers of the OSI network model.
- Ability to articulate an in-depth understanding of WAN circuit technologies, such as DS, OC/SONET, DWDM.
- Experience in one or more of the following technical areas: Security protocols and services such as IPSec, firewalls, SSL, VPN, ACLs or filters.
- Experience developing engineering documentation, including technical specifications, maps, and drawings for a variety of audiences.
- Knowledge of network technologies and design standards.
- Familiarity with server management and monitoring tools.
- Must be customer service- and team-oriented.
- Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to respond quickly to network problems and proactively troubleshoot to meet expectations for minimal downtime.
- Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
- Exercise independent judgment in complex and new situations.
- Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines.
- Detail-oriented and willing to work in a changing environment.
- Must be available outside of business hours for certain tasks and emergencies.
- Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials, and the public.
