PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As General Roadmaster, you will coordinate the safe, cost effective and timely planning and execution of the Production capital plan on the region, mentor and provide oversight to the ongoing development of the management staff to ensure compliance with corporate policy and regulatory/engineering standards. Additionally, you will manage all aspects of staffing requirements for Production within the region.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provides for the execution of safe work plans ensuring appropriate, tools, training, and resources are available to Production crews
- Provides direction and support for all industrial investigations that occur on the region including conducting investigations if required
- Establish knowledge of labor agreements covering Production Crews
- Ensure regulatory compliance for Production Capital projects
- Monitor specified financial output / results expected within Production projects
- Coordinates the annual review of planned capital work to support the planning process
- Participates in the development of safety plans, crew schedules, and consist design
- Support the implementation of work process changes that achieve continuous improvement
- Ensures the application of CP policies, safety practices, and procedures by all direct reports
- Establishes/maintains cross functional relationships within their geographic territory and ensures clear cross functional working relationships between all direct reports
- Arranges for and coordinates the hiring and crew staffing process as needed
- Actively fills the role of the Director in his absence
- Coach direct reports to improve their effectiveness, invoke performance improvement plans, assess personal effectiveness and provide development opportunities, and promote individual career development plans for each direct report
- Ability to respond to service interruptions
- All other duties as assigned by Director of Track and Structures or Assistant Chief Engineer
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- 10 years’ experience or equivalent in the maintenance railway physical plant
- On Call 24/7/365
- Good understanding of Track Production and track equipment
- Demonstrated capability to apply relevant knowledge and technical skills to monitor adherence to CPKC policies and standards as well as regulatory requirements
- Capability to develop and manage a project plan/schedule
- Ability to make quick, effective decisions when plans change
- Ability to manage priorities and ensure delivery of planned, expected, key performance metrics
- Ability to influence peers, cross functional co-managers and leadership team
- Good communication skills both written and verbal
- Computer literate
- Willingness to apply one’s self fully to the requirements of the position
- Lead by example with strict adherence to corporate values

Medical Requirements:

Management Conductor Program:
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
