What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mill Accountant position at Canfor?
Reporting to the Regional Operations Controller and the Plant Manager, the sawmill Controller will be responsible for month end closing for the mill operation in addition to providing accurate decision-making information that will support the mill performance analysis to improve the business operations.
The Opportunity:
As a key member of the mill management team, the Controller will provide relevant historical and forward-looking financial / statistical analysis and information and participate in decisions that enhance the mill's profitability. The role ensures that appropriate systems, policies and procedures, and internal controls are in place for the timely and accurate completion of the monthly financial closes, weekly cost reporting, monthly and quarterly forecasts, annual business plans and capital processes.
Responsibilities:
- Monthly financial close for the mill, including all journal entries and facilitating the monthly inventory
- Review mill operational financial statements and reports (including financial template)
- Prepare mill operational forecasting and weekly KPI report
- Provide operational and financial support and analysis
- Key member of mill operations team providing leadership and direction on initiatives
- Prepare weekly cost tracking for the mill and communicate with mill management
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts for the mill division
Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in related fields from an accredited university
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting
- Strong technical skills with an ability to become highly proficient in ERP systems, BI tools, and MS Office applications
- Methodical, organized, and structured in work habits
- Focused on efficiency and seeks continuous improvement in current process
- Ability to work to changing job demands and requirements including performing work outside of normal business operating hours as required
