Role: Actuarial Analyst
Reporting to: Head of Actuarial (US/Bermuda)/Commercial Lines Pricing Actuary

The Role
The role is responsible to the Company Actuary of Canopius for the support of and delivery of actuarial analyses for internal and external customers of Canopius. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with a small and growing team, while having the support and resources of the entire Canopius organization.
The role will collaborate with underwriting, data, finance, and claims as well as various functions in the London headquarters. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with the underwriting team and have clear insight into the business strategy and influence over the future direction of the company. The work will span multiple lines of business, including some niche programs.
Responsibilities will include:
- Carry out data manipulation, reconciliation and analysis.
- Assist in the monthly and quarterly reserving process of the Group reserving process including:
- Preparation of monthly tracking reports and associated files
- Reconciliation and import of quarterly reserving data into working files
- Assist in the assessment and analysis of quarterly reserve estimates
- Prepare information packs for reserving committee meetings and working group meetings
- Assist in the production of monthly and quarterly actuarial pricing reports and analyses.
- Provide assistance to underwriters in using pricing tools in a personable and professional manner.
- Assist with the implementation and documentation of changes to reserving processes
- Building relationships with other departments as necessary
- Assist with the management and development of databases using SQL and VBA code.
- Assisting with ad-hoc analyses provided by the Reserving function to support the business
- The role includes the opportunity for the individual to gain specific knowledge and experience in relation to business demands and their interests be that gaining in depth class experience, reporting and MI, links to capital or database/processes.
- Assist other teams in the Actuarial Function where resource is required to help gain a breadth of knowledge and skills. For example, pricing of large and/or complex risks, capital analysis, quarterly reserving and development of ad hoc pieces of analysis.
- Perform duties in accordance with the applicable Canopius Policies and Actuarial Standards to ensure procedures, methodologies and key assumptions are documented clearly.
Skills and experience:
- Proficient in MS Excel
- Experience with R, SQL, or VBA is a plus
- Identifying and interpreting trends or patterns in complex data sets
- Ability to analyse and apply creative problem solving both independently and within a team
- Ability to effectively communicate results with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field
- 1-4 years of actuarial experience or prior actuarial internships required
- Goal of attainting ACAS or FCAS designation
- Passing grades on a minimum of 2 Casualty Actuarial Exams is required, 3 exams is a plus
- Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple projects
- Self-starter; ability to proactively identify opportunities and problems
