What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Specialist position at Capabilities, Inc.?
The Peer Specialist will work at the Church Street, Elmira, NY Social Connection location. Responsibilities include recruiting new membership for the club, and acting as a liaison between Family Services, EPC, and St. Joseph's BSU - bringing referrals to the club as needed. This person also gives tours and hands out membership information, and greets arriving members. An important responsibility is meeting with new members to provide peer support and assisting in identifying and linking up with services, programs, and recreation in the community. You will meet with members, and openly share experiences and solutions encountered while living in the community as a person with a psychiatric disability. Must complete paperwork required by the recipient and the agency. Assist in accomplishing program goals and goals of the Social Connection. Will attend Peer Staff Meetings at the club; and will also rotate Saturdays as needed, and also cover as back-up on the schedule.
Mintain certification of First Aid and CPR. Complete Peer Case Manager Training and attend any in-service trainings that are offered. Able to lift up to 30 pounds (make coffee, stock snack bar). Bending, lifting, vacuuming, sweepting, mopping, trash, recycling, cleaning bathrooms. Able to climb stairs to clean upstairs and downstairs. Must be flexible with job duties and hours.
Must have the ability to respond with sensitivity and awareness to those individuals with diverse, ethical, social backgrounds, values, and attitudes.
