Laboratory Technician
Work Location: Wright Patterson Air Force Base
Cape Fox is seeking a highly qualified professional to join our team in support of a government customer. This position is contingent upon award.
Core Duties:
- Assist and advise the government with BSL-2 laboratory techniques.
- Assist and advise the government with microbial culture (growing, isolating, and killing virus, bacteria, and/or protozoa).
- Assist and advise the government with mammalian and/or insect cell culture.
- Assist and advise the government with environmental/surface sampling (soil, surfaces, food, water, air).
- Perform manual and automated nucleic acid extractions (MagMax, Maxwell 16, and Qiacube, or other comparable methods as determined by the PI).
- Assist and advise the government with testing nucleic acid with Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and/or RT-PCR.
- Assist and advise the government with automated next-generation sequencing (Roche GS Junior, Ion Torrent PGM, Ion Torrent Proton, Illumina sequencers).
- Query NCBI/GenBank/Primer3 or similar web-based databases.
- Assist and advise the government with biochemical assays such as ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay), Western blot analysis and immunochemistry.
- Assist and advise the government with detailed recordkeeping and maintenance of accurate experimental records.
- Query NCBI/GenBank/Primer3 or similar web-based databases.
- Perform data entry and analysis, and spreadsheet management
- Work (handling/disposal) with hazardous chemicals and biological agents.
- Compile progress reports.
- Assist with the inventory, packing, unpacking, and assembly of lab equipment and space.
- Conduct scientific literature research and review.
- Conduct any other functions and duties, recognized as being necessary to conduct their primary role within the scope of the effort, such as assisting with day to day operations to ensure project is meeting its goal.
- Assist the government in the development of training materials, manuals and reference data sheets for different levels of instruction, from senior leadership, commander, medical practitioner to laboratory operator, on applications of these advanced technologies. The laboratory operator material will also include in-depth procedures for operation and maintenance of the selected technical platform. Final reports are to be submitted upon completion of each project.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field
- At least six years laboratory experience
- At least two years’ experience in molecular biology, to include experience with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods
- At least one years’ hands-on experience with next generation sequencing methods.
- Competency in research, and shall be expected to lend strong administrative and technical support to ongoing research studies.
- Ability to pass Tier 1 background investigation
- Compliance with the mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements as issued by the White House’s Safer Federal Workforce Task Force which states: employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 no later than January 18, 2022, unless a reasonable accommodation for health or religious beliefs is approved by HR in advance.
