Position Summary:
RN provides direct patient care by utilization of the nursing process in accordance with the established policies and procedures of Southwestern Medical Center. Performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties within the scope of practice of license. Participates in the planning, implementing, and evaluating of nursing care. Maintains clinical competencies through continuing education.
SPECIFIC TASKS FOR PACU NURSE
a. Verbal report from anesthesia personnel and circulating nurse.
b. Chart review.
c. Patient observation
Service/Quality Excellence:
Participates in the Hospital’s Service Excellence Program designed to improve patient care, employee and physician satisfaction. Participation includes knowledge of HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Systems and Providers, which measures patient’s perceptions of care received and Core Measure Set, which measures performance of patients’, care based on medical research. Participates
In hospital wide and unit specific performance projects
Requirements Position Requirements:
A. Licensure/Certification/Registration:
a. Must possess a current Registered Nurse License for the State of Oklahoma
b. Current BLS.
c. PALS and ACLS within 6 months of hire.
d. NIH Stroke by end of Clinical Nursing Orientation
B. Education:
Graduate from an accredited professional nurse program (diploma, ADN, BSN).
C. Experience:
Minimum of one year clinical nursing. Minimal one year PACU experience required.
D. Special qualifications:
Good oral and written communication skills. Good computer skills. Good interpersonal skills.
Degree of Supervision Required:
Involves general guidance and direction by the clinical supervisor and/or department director, and anesthesia. The staff nurse is expected to perform most duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Physical Requirements:
Requires corrected hearing and vision to within functional ranges. Requires frequent bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients, and sufficient manual dexterity to operate therapeutic equipment. Must be able to stand for long periods at a time. Excellent mental and physical health to work for long periods of time in a highly stressful atmosphere is required.
