Purpose of Position:
The Portfolio Analyst position is part of the Portfolio Strategy Team (PST) that is responsible for designing and coordinating the portfolio construction and maintenance process for all clients. PST collaborates with the Research Team to design and maintain a proprietary asset allocation matrix that maps each client’s investment profile with an appropriate portfolio design. PST is also responsible for designing and maintaining the Firm’s Investment Policy Statement (IPS) and Risk & Suitability documents. PST works closely with all the Firm’s Wealth Advisors (WAs) to support the client onboarding process, asset allocation changes, and special projects involving clients and prospects. Primary responsibilities include the processing of Risk & Suitability documents, creation of each client’s IPS, and the initial design of each client portfolio. PST also supports WAs with client-specific projects involving asset allocation changes and updates to the IPS. Additional responsibilities support the Research, Trading and Client Service teams with internal research and analytics around the Firm’s portfolio strategies, asset allocation and security positions on a firm-wide basis.
Principal Accountabilities:
60% Portfolio Management / Portfolio Administration
- Coordinate with WAs on client/prospect needs involving Risk & Suitability communication, IPS development and updates, portfolio design, client cash flows and asset allocation changes.
- Incorporate the internal asset allocation matrix, Risk & Suitability documents and WA feedback to design each client portfolio and/ or engineer any portfolio changes driven by client cash flows and asset allocation adjustments.
- Collaborate with the Trading Team to communicate trade instructions for the onboarding of new client portfolios and/or changes to existing portfolios related to client cash flows and asset allocation adjustments.
40% Internal Research & Support
- Collaborate with the Research Team to maintain the Firm’s proprietary asset allocation matrix.
- Develop and execute analytics to support WAs, Research and Trading in identifying inconsistencies in need of attention, including asset allocation vs. IPS targets; missing/excessive position sizes; portfolio performance and attribution, benchmark comparisons, and cash management.
- Coordinate with Research to review incoming client portfolios to map existing positions with CAI holdings, identify important tax considerations, analyze deferred sales charges and lockups, and segregate positions into an “Other” sleeve as needed.
- Coordinate with Research to review “Other” holdings that have an exit plan on a regular basis.
- Maintain a database of client holdings in the CAIOTH sleeve and coordinate with WAs to identify positions in need of attention and/or opportunities for consolidation into a managed strategy.
- Design and refresh the IPS template and the Risk & Suitability and Addendum documents used to identify each client’s investment objectives and constraints.
- Help WAs with the creation of presentation materials for client meetings, prospects and public events.
- Prepare standard client reports for WAs to distribute to clients at quarter-end.
- Support ad hoc needs in collaboration with WAs, Trading and/or the Research Team.
