Position Responsibilities
- Underwrite Conventional HFA, FHA, VA, and USDA loans
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, in addition to underwriting guidelines from FHLMC, FNMA, MI Companies, DPA agencies and other conduits.
- Review and analyze appraisal, credit, income, purchase contracts and DPA requirements
- Secure MI when required
- Issue loan approval, counter offer, or denial
- Serve as a subject matter expert to processors and originators
- Keep current with changes in underwriting standards and maintain up to date information
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education and Experience
- Five years’ experience underwriting Conventional, FHA, VA and USDA loans.
- DE certification required, VA LAAP certification required.
- Experience working with DU, LPA, GUS and other applicable automated underwriting engines
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- In Depth knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA
- Strong knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to the mortgage banking industry (RESPA, TILA, ECOA, etc.)
- Strong working experience with FNMA, FHLMC, VA, and FHA underwriting guidelines
- Experience with non-conforming loans would be a plus
- Prior experience with government based underwriting preferred
- Working knowledge of the Encompass origination platform.
- A team player with the ability to work independently
- Excellent customer service skills
- Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
